Summary: A Dictionary of Kinks for Nillas and Kinksters Alike!
Review: I "stumbled" over the on-line version of this book and just had to have it. I am the FemDomme Founder and Creator of some great FemDomme on-line clubs and have a weekly fetish discussion topic. After coming up with a year's plus topics, I was wanting to "dig a little deeper" and get some more ideas. This is a fantastic book. If you are conservative, this book will make you feel even more "normal", but you will certainly be better informed. If you are an "alternative lifestyler", you'll feel like whatever you're into still isn't the absolutely gamut of kinky!! Even I went EEEUUUUWWW a couple of times and I've been a FemDomme for over 16 years!! It has obviously been researched extensively, is written in a technical vein with a kink-friendly slant, and emphasizes all of the safety issues. Perhaps a better title might have been "Dictionary", than "Encyclopedia", however it is well worth the money and much cheaper than buying access to it on-line for two months.

Summary: A book of great pleasures
Review: I bought the Encyclopedia of Unusual Sex Practices and it changed my lovelife.I tried some of things mentioned in the book and became instantly popular at my swingers club.:o)
I also had a chance to meet Ms Love at one of her lectures, and her knowlidge of sexual practices far exceeds the book.
Since our meeting I started collection of her nudes and I'm her biggest fan now.
Never had so much fun with any book before. :o)

Summary: Excellent book
Review: I have very little to add to the fair comments by other readers. It would really stretch my imagination to think of something not mentioned in this book - justifiably called an encyclopedia.

Summary: Answered all questions and then some...
Review: Love (appropriately named) and Mavrides did an excellent job compiling this handy little coffee table book. I bought this while on vacation and my husband and I were intensely aroused with some of the obscure methods of sexual pleasure that were noted in this book. If you are the least bit interested in things that are "different," then I would highly recommend this gem!

Summary: Generally good, but with some sloppy research
Review: Love's book is handy as a reference or for just flipping through, but be careful about using it as an authoritative source. I found a handful of mistakes, including its listing of snuff films as real. This has been an urban legend/hoax for decades, and its inclusion here makes me wonder just how well-researched the rest of the book is. For example, that section came from an article in Penthouse on Satanism, perhaps not the best source for such material.

(For a more accurate view of the snuff film hoax, you might pick up a copy of Nadine Strossen's book Defending Pornography, where she tries to dispel the rumor that won't die. Or Susie Bright's article in the San Diego Reader (18 November 1983). Or Kim Mohan's survey of horror films Nightmare Movies, which the original film was. Or the May/June 1999 issue of the magazine the Skeptical Inquirer.)

Other than those sorts of oversights, the book is fun to read, in part just to convince yourself that there are weirder people than yourself out there!

Summary: Not what it sounds like.
Review: This book should be called a listing of unusual sex practices. Its not a "how to" book for those who want to broaden their bedroom ativities.

Having said that, the book does detail the unusual sex practises from around the world. It's an interesting book.
There are illustrations but very few.Overall:average.
If you're curious this book will be of interest.

Summary: Very unique
Review: This is one whacky book! It has about everything you can possibly imagine. A great coffee table piece, or even a great refrence guide.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Generally good, but with some sloppy research
Review: Use this as a reference guide to settle arguments with your friends or spouse because just trying to read it will be really difficult. It does cover any and everything will enough information to satisfy your curiosity and point you in the direction to find more.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not quite Encyclopedia caliber
Review: When I think "encylopedia" I think entire sets or series of books. This is more like a dictionary of sexual practices. There is an attempt to provide context, historical and contemporary, but not always as fully or as clearly as you might like. Why is it "unusual"? Because a wide range of sexual activities and interests are covered that may not be strange to you or in your society but which could be rare or taboo for others. There is a good index so you can find things fairly easily and it is fun to read. Overall you come away knowing that the weird thing you did last night, really isn't all that weird.
