Rating: Summary: Too compelling to put down... Review: Although I couldn't set this book aside without wanting to read more, it's not for the faint of heart. The details can be quite graphic at times, which was not exactly necessary to tell this horrific story, but it definately put into context how truly psycopathic Paul Bernardo and Karla Holmoka are. What really amazed me is the fact that neither of them is remorseful for what they did to those poor young girls. Mr. Williams does seem to focus more on Karla in this book, which lets us see that she may have been the true mastermind of all the crimes commited, but I would have liked to have read more on Paul as well. The only possible complaint that I could have about this story is that sometimes Mr. Williams jumped around with some details and also there were too many names associated with this case to keep straight. I was astounded that the police could "bungle" the investigations so badly, maybe those three girls would be alive today if Paul Bernardo was stopped earlier than he had been. I can't quite comprehend why the police settled themselves on facts which proved to be incorrect. It's as if they walked around with blinders on instead of meticulously checking out every piece of evidence. This is absolutely worth the read and it shows the great injustice served to all the victims of the sick minds of Paul and Karla. They should rot in jail, and I'm not talking about "country clubish", I'm talking about hard time in general population. Let's see how long they survive there!
Rating: Summary: Truly Disturbing....The victims will haunt you Review: I had seen some of the story on Homolka and Bernardo on discovery channel here in The Netherlands. I was shocked to watch the documentary ,but reading the book was even worse .
I agree with the other poster Rebecca that mister Williams is not one of the best writers. On only 2 pages he mentioned the rapes and that was all he wrote on that.I am talking about the period where Bernardo hangs out on the streets raping women
It wasn't the writing that kept me reading but the amazing story + that it really happened.
But when I was nearly finished and came to understand that Karla was going to get away with it, that they fell for her battered women line, I stopped reading. It was a big shock to me. That another accomplish can testify in court and get a plea bargain.
some months I picked it up again, after reading many more true crime books, this was one of my first :-), I realised that not all murderers get the punishment they deserve.
Rating: Summary: ABSOULTLY INSANE! Review: I have never read something so crazy in all the stories I have read. The author is great with detail but sometimes I got confused with the way things were told in the story. That didn't matter much considering what happened. These 2 people are sick! If your looking for a book with a lot of detail and you can hanlde it, this is it!...but ONLY if you can handle disgusting devilish acts being described in FULL detail! SICK!...but like a bloody car accident, you have to look. I had to set the book down a few times and take a break!
Rating: Summary: GREAT True Crime Story Review: I have to say, every review here urged me even further toward buying this book, so I finally did and I don't regret one second spent on reading it either. Absolutely wonderful. I have been a true crime buff ever since I was around 11-12 years old, when I used my allowance each week to purchase True Detective magazines, True Crime Story magazines, True Story magazines, etc.... I read the first magazine and I was hooked totally. As I grew up, I went on to books, instead of just magazines, and I must say, I probably couldn't stop if I wanted to, I don't think..ha! This couple is absolutely disgusting and what they did, absolutely horrible. Of course, we have had worse here in the US, but maybe that is what drew me to this story, that it actually happened somewhere else besides in the USA. No, we aren't the only country to have such gruesome murders, or killers. These people deserve to spend the rest of their lives in prison, never to see freedom again, and this includes Karla. I cannot believe that it is possible she could get out early. She best be afraid, from what I have read about all of this, and her case. She probably won't be very safe after all they have done, just to be honest!! She should be scared stiff. Not only that, I have no doubt that she is a true crazy, sick-o, and would probably do this again if she hooked up with someone like herself again. She should never be allowed to leave prison, in my opinion, and is just as guilty as Paul. 100%!! I highly recommend this book and can hardly wait to read the others on this case. I plan to get the hard cover edition with all the photo's also.
Rating: Summary: Pure Evil Review: I read this book while studying psychology in order to get a clear illustration of a pure sociopathic mind. These two people are the sickest, most degenerate losers you may ever read about. They are truly loathsome and completely evil. I think this book is good as a morality tale, but it is disgusting to read. Not for the faint-hearted.
Rating: Summary: Graphic Video Descriptions can't make up for what's missing Review: Invisible Darkness will please some readers in that the content of the infamous videos (some featuring the deceased victims) is described in great gory detail. Although at first, being human, I was drawn to the book by this fact, cold reality soon sets in and you realize that what is being described really occurred to two female children, who then died. Also while perhaps the description of one tape would give the reader the "idea", the description of all of them is too much of a gore fest. Finally, I find the distinct bias against Karla Holmolka to be upsetting. Paul Bernardo's part in the slaying and rape is almost justified in some sick way. It is almost as if the author wants the reader to say, "Well what would you do if your beautiful blonde girlfriend told you to rape her sister?" I think in this sad case that both are psychopathic and that together they were pure evil. This book is worth reading, but if given a choice on the subject, I suggest Deadly Innocence.
Rating: Summary: invisible darkness Review: Sick. Karla and Paul are, without as doubt, two of the most vile, malligned creatures on this planet. As if it isn't bad, sick and twisted enough to accost, assault, and kill a perfectly innocent stranger snatched off the street...these two wind up acting out their perversions on a young family member as well!!! Once the case burst open and both were arrested, Karla was more concerned about safely getting her possessions out of the house than helping the police find out the truth behind the gruesome torture, rape, murder of three young women! She had the audacity to wear the Mickey Mouse watch-that had belonged to one of the victims-during a police interview/interrogation!!! And to add further insult to injury, Karla has been offered an early out from prison! Nervermind the eternal prison the families of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffee (sic) live and suffer in...just make an accomplice to the rapes and murders of their daughters happy, huh? I cannot imagine what Karla's family is thinking-she is on videotape as an active participant in the drugging, raping, and subsequent death of her teenage sister-and yet they still support her and plan to welcome her back into their home once released from prison!!! Man oh, man, you talk about Dysfunction fest...

Rating: Summary: Interesting, graphic, and detailed...BUT Review: This is the second book I've read in the Bernardo/Homolka series. Deadly Innocence was the other one I read, and found it to be a chilling account, extremely well written and comprehensive. Invisible Darkeness wasn't as well-written and comprehensive. It seemed like Williams had written up a bunch of notes and then just stuck them all together haphazardly. As a writer, I had some problems with grammar and structure in this book. Williams is not a great writer by any means. Sometimes I found myself shaking my head wondering what the heck he was talking about. However, what I did love about this book was the fine detail and how it told the truth about Karla. The other books kind of painted her as the victim. She was not a victim, she was one of the perps. Williams was very clear in pointing that out. While the other book sometimes glossed over the details, this book got down to the nitty-gritty. Very difficult to read. I thought Deadly Innocence told the whole story, but this book told so much more. For example, the truth about Karla's parents and how nutty they were. The night Tammy Lyn died, they went to bed and had sex??? They gave Karla a going away BBQ party before she went off to jail? I mean, how morbidly inappropriate are these people? It just gave me the sense that they had NO conscience, no morals, no sense of right and wrong at all. Sick sick people. They just DO NOT CARE. I also found it very frustrating that the cops had all this evidence on Paul during the Scarbourough rapes, the plate numbers on his car and everything, and he was never arrested. I guess I am fascinated with this case because it happened in Canada. And Leslie and Kristen were 15 in 1991 just like I was. I could have gone to school with them. They could have been my friends. Also, Paul and Karla looked so "normal" though they are actally the scariest, most evil people I have ever read about. The fact that Karla will probably be out on 2005 just baffles my mind. And I saw a picture of Paul, watching TV in his cell, relaxed as can be. He deserves no luxeries at all. When Karla does get out, I hope someone kidnaps her and tortures her. Then again, she'd probably get off on it.
Rating: Summary: Ultimate Evil in Ken and Barbie Review: Who would have thought that this attractive Canadian couple would have killed 3 young girls including Tammy Homolka, the sister to Karla Homolka. This couple is terrifying! Karla gives away her sister's virginity to her husband as a Christmas present. Sadly, Tammy is drugged and dies in the process of losing her virginity without being aware of her sister and future brother-in-law's actions. When Tammy is buried, Karla dresses up like Tammy for her husband. This is sick disturbing behavior for any couple. It just does not end there. She has married the Scarborough rapist. When she asks her husband where he was, he calmly responds "just raping somebody." They are unconsciousable, cruel, and definity evil to any sane person. Karla's 12 year sentence is Canadian injustice. If you thought O.J. SImpson's crimes are unbelievable, then you would be shocked by this couple's reign of terror in Canada. They kidnap and kill 2 young girls to satisfy their hunger. Karla and Paul should never be released from prison ever.
