Rating: Summary: Excellent text for Social Worker or Therapist! Review: It's easy to understand why this text is hard-to-find and in its third edition. It is an easy-to-read guide for the Social Worker or therapist both from a theoretical and practical perspective. In Part I the authors provide the theory of family practice using a systemic approach but with sensitivity to the individual needs of specific family settings. Part II covers hands-on practical interventions the practitioner may apply in almost any situation including topics such as single-parent families, sexual orientation, child abuse and violence, the elderly, mental health and chemical dependency issues, divorce and aftercare. It is significant that the authors have not overlooked the role that the agency plays in the Social Worker's treatment plan for families. Part III provides a concise and informative look at the agency's role including confidentiality and inter-connectedness of other service agencies. A must-read for any social worker and so well written that one does not get bogged down with discipline-specific language and terms. Well done Janzen & Harris!
