Summary: On pins and needles....
Review: A very exciting read from a forensic point of view and from a talented investigative reporter as an author. M. William Phelps develops this startingly true story as one would find from reading a world-famous novel. His interpretation of the psychological events leading to this tragic story is accurate and intruiging. The ivestigative process and court trial are interpreted with equal finesse. This is what can happen when hospitals don't have a smart quality assurance program and when a professional staff does not challenge the least inconsistency! Families of victims felt that they had little voice if any at all. Being a pest in a clincal setting is unfortunately still very unpopular and can smack of, "what if the staff retaliates against the client because of the family"? I think this book teaches many very important lessons and the very special one of keeping notes while receiving care or one's relative getting questionable care. It's time to become health-smart consumers!

Summary: Fascinating dark tale of Ward C's "Angel of Death"
Review: Author M. William Phelps did a marvelous job of researching and writing this truly terrifying account of nurse Kristen Gilbert, who chose to dispense death instead of offering compassion and care to her charges. Little did the hapless patients at the Veterans Medical Center know that their very lives were at stake, were they unlucky enough to be placed under the "care" of nurse Gilbert.

Gilbert's reasons for killing patients were astounding for their selfishness. If she wanted to leave work early to meet her lover, hopsital security guard James Perrault, but the responsibility for a patient stood in her way of getting approval to leave, she thought a lethal dose of epinephrine was the perfect solution. After injecting the patient/obstacle, and ensuring he expired on schedule, she would sail out the door scarcely missing a beat. How alarming it is that a casual date could mean more to her than the very life of a helpless patient! Phelps did a great job of setting the scene and making the events that unfolded seem real, even when to most of us her behavior was more similar to a villainess in a fictional horror story.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the case was the metamorphosis of a wife, mother, and seemingly dedicated nurse into the adulterous, sexually obsessed, manipulative serial killer she becomes. Her husband Glen was by all accounts, a genuinely good guy, her children happy and healthy, and her career rewarding. Many would have felt privileged to enjoy such a life, but somehow Gilbert became unsatisfied, craving illicit thrills over honor and stability.

I applaud her three courageous fellow nurses on Ward C who could no longer ignore the alarmingly increasing incidences of "codes," followed shortly thereafter by the deaths of patients under Gilbert's care. As much as I admired their actions, integrity, and courage, I was appalled that the hospital administration treated them more like pariahs than the heroes they truly are. It was a sad example of the growing tendency to "sweep anything under the rug" that could result in adverse publicity. Regardless, I was glad to see that they were recognized and publicly lauded for their efforts by the police. Meanwhile, Gilbert ends up behind bars for life, a sentence that pales in comparison to the 40+ lives she ended before their time.

I highly recommend reading this fascinating book! Phelps skillfully paints a portrait of a psychopathic personality that is nearly impossible to put down!

Summary: Must read !!!
Review: One of the best true crime books I've ever read. The author does an outstanding job of informing the reader on how this killer's mind worked. A true page turner. Not knowing anything about this crime, I was curious what this book was about. I'm glad I read it. She probabbly could be the nations worst serial killer. What a nut !!
Ann Rule step aside, you now have competition. Can't wait for the author's next book.

Summary: A true genius in the true crime genre
Review: Perfect Poison was the first true crime book I have read. I read it simply because I took Mr. Phelps course in writing. Now I am hooked. His work flows so smoothly that time seems to disappear while you read "one more chapter". Today I purchased a copy of his newest release, Lethal Guardian at a book signing. I can't wait to dig into it.

His research into his subject matter is exhaustive. Every detail is backed up by interviews and court records, and it shows. The man apparently doesn't take time to sleep.

He is truly a great author.

Summary: Great reading
Review: This is a very detailed profile of a female serial killer. The female serial killer is a nurse. After you read this you will never want to go to a hospital again. You won't be able to put this one down.

Summary: Real Page-Turner
Review: This is what I call a "one-more-page" book - I tell myself I'll just read "one more page" before I put the book down & do something else. However, "one more page" turns into at least 10 or 15 more. This is a chilling profile of a psychotic narcissist in the guise of Florence Nightengale. Very well written & a must for all true-crime buffs.

Summary: True Crime as it Should be!
Review: This was one of the best True Crime books I have read to date!Right up there with Jack Olsen and Totaly bypassing Ann Rule! I have been an avid True crime reader for years and very few authors come along anymore who can put a story together like M William Phelps did with this one.I read this one while My Mom was in the hospital of all places!About a nurse killing her patients, sometimes out of boredom sometimes so she could sneak off to be with her lover.I have to say I was watching the nurses who were taking care of my Mom after finishing this. This book grabs you from the start and holds your attention! This is a must read for anyone who likes to read about murdering women or True crime readers in general! I passed it on to a nurse who loved it as well. Thank you Mr Phelps I just ordered your second book and am going to preorder your third as soon as Amazon will let me!! I'm so glad there are a few Quality TC authors still out there!
