Rating: Summary: title is prejudicial Review: As a cynical old curmudgeon who finds fault in fellow humans more often than praise, I am humbled and inspired by these creatively energized folks. Their success stories and positive attitudes remind me of a long-ago time-the sixties, when the organizing and action sometimes resulted in social change. Maybe this book won't change the November election, but it could. Even though this little primer in voter activism could have written by The League of Women Voters or included as a chapter in every United States high school government book, its message is now conveyed in a language and style that can connect with those who will determine the future of this country. The "can do" attitudes, organizing skill, and creativity recounted here are the key to waking up a tired, disillusioned, and disheartened electorate. These ideas turned into action can prove that democracy works.

All 12 co-authors are activists who also have normal lives which stands in contrast to so many previous books on political activism that make it sound like you have to devote your entire life to politics. This is a book about making politics both fun and effective and those who read it should find it most useful both this and future election years.

I was a 60's demonstrator, and nothing since then has gotten me this excited that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE. The tools, the stories, the wisdom, the genuiness, the grass roots feeling is all there. Its not perfectly written, but its passion is fabulous. Lets get together and save our country! This book is a great first start. Rating: Summary: Great demonstrations of civic duty Review: I was given this book by organizers in the League of Young Voters. When I first saw the title, I knew the tone would be just right for my current temperament. We all have ideas that the world doesn't go just how we'd like, and we tend to think that we're such a small part of the equation that there's never any way that we can actually make a discernable difference in our communities. Then I read this book. "How to Get Stupid White Men..." tells of stories of other young people just like me, who decided they'd had enough of the SWM's rhetoric and needed a change in their communities. What was astonishing to me was that they actually made it happen. It's one of the most inspirational collection of words I've ever read. I've been walking around recommending it to everyone I know. Even some of the SWM's I work with. Hopefully enough people will read this book, and little by little, our country will be run by the people, for the people, just as our forefathers imagined.

Rating: Summary: Much better than Prozac Review: This book is fantastic -- entertaining, enlightening, and most of all, inspiring. It's an incredible lift for anyone who is feeling frustrated, discouraged or depressed about the current political situation. Much better than Prozac. I loved the user friendly format, stories I could relate to, and the humor, especially the wacky mini-interviews. Buy one for yourself and 10 for your friends. It's that good.
