Summary: Needs to a get editor and take a political science class
Review:
The book is written much like a textbook- fragmented dates and facts without causation, or connecting the dots. She does not research the people that is pointing her finger- otherwise she would realize that John Dewy was in fact AGAINST spilting the high school system into liberal arts and making the masses go into vocational traning. If she had read the School and Society she would see that her complaints about the school system are not the schools that John Dewy visiualized. She completely leaves out Woodrow Wilson ties to the process. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THE BOOK- it will piss you off when you resale it for 5.00!!!!

Summary: The single best book ever on 'education' in AmeriKa
Review: (...)?

After reading Charlotte Iserbyt's book, I have to conclude that this was done on purpose. She provides all the documentation right in the book; all the secret reports, all the news articles that ran once and quickly disappeared, and virtually everything the authorities have desperately tried to keep from public view.

This book is exhaustively researched; Iserbyt makes no statements without providing the reference source material as proof. Once the reader starts to make the connections between all of these profusely cited documents and the demonization of 'home schooling' that is currently underway in our so-called FREE country, it will become apparent that this was all done on purpose with the intent of creating groupthink and to destroy individuality and self-reliance.

Anyone with young children needs to read this book BEFORE their children become of school age.

Also, I would give this book a realistic rating of 100 stars (out of 5). It is that good and that important.

Summary: Didn't read the book, heard author on the radio
Review: As an educator for the past 28 years, and believing myself to be at least a little left of center polically, I found "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" to be the scariest thing I have ever read. Some will brand this book as conservative propganda. But those of us in the teaching profession wonder aload to each other and anyone else who will listen, what politicains are thinking about when they pass educational reform legislation. It would seem impossible to make some of the decisions that are being made without having deliberately set about to wreak the education system in America. If the facts laid out in this book are true (and the book is full of documentation) what is happening to education in Washington D.C. is worse than the Twin Towers tragedy and the attact on Pearl Harbor combined. The promotional material for this book says that it should be required reading for parents. I think it should be required reading for every educator or university student considering a career in education. A difficult read, but eye opening to the point of being painful.

Summary: Every parent needs to read this book!
Review: For every parent who has questions about what's going on in the public schools, this book will answer those questions. As a former public school teacher with a B.A. in psychology, I found this book very informative and well documented. Every parent needs to know that achievement tests, now called performance (behavioral) assessments, test a child's attitudes. Ms. Iserbyt covers the history of such assessments thoroughly. There are several good books about this topic on the market. This is the best reference book about education reform to date.

Summary: The decline of education is part of the right-wing agenda
Review: I was initially drawn to this book and after several failed attempts to locate one, I finally found a copy. At first glance you will find some rather informative information regarding the "schooling" of our nations children, and the inherent down fall of education. What you also get is a misguided, misinformed, unrealistic, unfortunate picture of direct instruction and behaviorism (the philosophy of behavioral engineering or behaivoral analysis). Charlotte Iserbyt is like the rest of the general public, (having been shaped by her enviornment) dumbed down. As a major growing field ABA (applied behavior analysis) has had growing pains, but is constantly changing with the good of all at the heart of it's mission. I am truly disappointed that such an "educated" woman has been misrepresenting great people and ideas. I caution anyone who gets sucked into the misconceptions of certain parts of this book!! Watch out!! I am willing to discuss further with anyone who wishes. Behaivor Analysis and all under the umbrella of ABA will change the world and make all of our lives and environments better.

Summary: Exposing the Myths of Education and the Economy
Review: Iserbyt's exhaustive research regarding education and the economy has exposed the many myths and misinformation underlying the history of related reforms. Presented in chronological order, the author presents a stunning indictment of public and private partnerships designed to restructure education and the economy, and ultimately to redefine the very nature and purpose of not only education, but man himself. Teachers will find this book extremely useful and instructive in identifying and comprehending recent changes in education certification and training that are increasingly threatening to academic freedom, and driving many out of the teaching profession altogether. Parents of children in public, private, and home-schools alike will find Iserbyt's research equally applicable to all, as the new system is deliberately mandated for everyone. No student or adult is to be exempt from the new systemic education and labor reforms. Only by understanding the underlying agenda and strategies of the reformists can we hope to restore academic freedom and moral agency in society, and protect our children. A Must Read for every parent, educator, and legislator concerned about our children!

Summary: Who's publishing this stuff?
Review: Just an observation: I cannot tell from the information offered on this page who the publisher of "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America " is. I would recommend that everyone gain familiarity with a publishing house before jumping into these products. Now is this omission deliberate? It is certainly dumbing. I wonder if Charlotte Thompson Iserbyt would direct her examining intellect toward the software engineering industry and divine a political agenda therein? I would read that book.

Summary: "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America
Review: This book is THE BOOK - to have- EVERY CONCERNED PARENT in America should invest in a copy of it. It's the encyclopedia -IN YEAR DATE ORDER- of just what has been going on in America in the public school system- now for years and years. I can't recommend this book enough- it holds alot of answers to so many unanswered questions. YEARS OF RESEARCH at our fingertips- & it's the size of a telephone book. It's the best inside look- it's HONEST- OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION- undisputable evidence. If every parent were to read this, we could right a terrible wrong being done in public schools today. I purchased two copies- one to share with a friend & one to keep by my computer on hand. Saves me years of research AT MY FINGERTIPS. What can I say, I could of used this book ten years ago. So don't be too late being really informed- the time to catch up is now. The fact she was once a Senior Policy Advisor for the US Dept. of Education- weighs alot on the books creditablity factor. It may be in the number FOUR slot- but to me it's NUMBER ONE.

Summary: If only more Americans would wise up...
Review: This is just one book. There are many more for those who would have Freedom. Try "Tethered Citizens" by Sheldon Richman, or "Why government Doesn't Work" by Harry Browne. If you find yourself coming out of the socialist fog, look up the Libertarian Party. We are fighting very hard to bring this country into a new age of Freedom and Liberty - an era of "Self-Ownership" and "Self-Government."

Summary: Wake up America
Review: When I first decided to home school my oldest child because of what she was being exposed to in junior high and the fact she had been diagnosed with ADHD through the school system and her own physician told me she was not ADHD only that she was bored, then did I decided to do some investigating to figure out the route of the problem. If you are a Christian especially or teach any sort of morals to your children and they are in public school, do you see a defiant change in their attitude? Most people blame it on adolescence I was not willing to take the easy road and leave to chance that that was the case. I have learned there is a great wealth of information to be had as to the reasons your kids actually become indoctrinated with THEIR truths and not the foundation you have laid for them a lot of your answers can be found in this book. It will terrify you and make you angry but in the end it will only resonate your deeper meaning of why the public school system is failing, why your children have a problem reading and how the elite who actually run this country think only their offspring could benefit from an education that only the elite could afford (because the simple minded can only think simple minded so lets keep them simple minded.-Rockefeller) She is defiantly a whistle blower that will have your head reeling and astounded that this could go on in a free society but after you read this delve deeper and understand their plan and then you will know that you are not truly free until you are educated and not by the public school system. She makes a clear case for the home school reform and that no child left behind is only window dressing on a deeper level that every parent needs to understand. If you have any doubts about the way your child is responding to YOUR teaching read this book it will shed a lot of light on their confusion and anger too adults giving them two different scenarios in this game we call life and why they can't decide which on of us is right the teacher or the parent. Look around your child's school do you see mostly angry children? Wondered why? Buy this book it will enlighten you and then hopefully set you on the path to restore what you know to be true education of the mind and the soul.
