Rating: Summary: If you are interested in art, then you MUST own this book. Review: The NSK is a collective of artists based in Slovenia. Their philosophy revolves around the appropriation of fascist/nazi/totalitarian imagery to drive home the point that if we ignore such ideologies, they will rise again. They also appropriate much of their aesthetic and ideology from modernist theories and aesthetics of art, remanipulating it and representing it with a method they call "retro-advant-gardism." This book is a collection of art and philosophy made bythe NSK up until the time of its priniting. It beautifully outlines and details their work, but it is a production of theirs so it lacks any kind of outside interpretation. For further information you should see the music group "Laibach" and the documentary about them and the NSK - "Predictions of Fire." My friend calls Laibach and the NSK "the most important artists of the late 20th century." And I do believe that time will show this to be true. The fact that they are dealing with the politics that formed the former Yugoslavia make them all the more pertinent at this time. If you would like more information I would be happy to talk to you, simply email me. Or you can visit my web site : http://www.cs.alfred.edu/~torreyma where there is a link to the NSK's fantastic homepage.
