Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Flashback!
Review: This is an excellent sociology text for anyone interested in how people thought about sociology in the early 1980s. It is impressively unaffected by any sociological thinking of the past two decades. If you'd be amazed to find that social forces affect the way people think about themselves, this is the book for you!

Four essays do stand out, however: Goffman's (two) and Geertz's essays are classics, and one centemporary author (Diamond) actually takes into account relatively recent ideas from disability studies.
