Rating: Summary: Good and succinct, structured textbook Review: J. Turner has been famous for his textbook on sociological theory. for example his 'The Structure of Sociological Theory' was now out of print for its content is so out of date that it would rather write whole other book than update. to keep up with the current, the volume of book should be too bulky to be used on class. but it was very concise and adaquately structured account on theoretical edifice. this book is not for contemporary theories but for classical theories like Marx, Weber, Durkheim. and that it has all the advantage of his previous title had: succinct and unbiased account of theories with explanation of theoritical background. and better, this book covers the historical background of theory. sure this kind of purpose, Giddens's 'Capitalism and Social Theory' should be better but this book covers not merely 3 masters but Comte, Spencer, Simmel, Pareto in coherent style
