Summary: A traditional approach to urban studies
Review: Lyon offers a values-free approach to community studies, reviews current and past methodology, and closes with a cogent commentary. Though some may consider a 1989 copyright dated, its value for the college professor lies in its foundational approach and the freedom it allows the prof to tailor content to his/her students' needs. One does not have to constantly battle an ideological polemic and, for this reason, the book is excellent for sectarian colleges. I have used the book for over 10 years, with excellent student feedback.
