Rating: Summary: Thanks Mr. Healey Review: I wanted a book on the topic of ethnic relations that was comprehensive, up to date, and relatively easy to read. I found it in Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in the United States. I am a Sociology instructor and I have read several books pertaining to ethnic relations because I teach an Intercultural Relations course. This book nicely incorporates early and modern theoretical models on the causes of racism. The book covers how minority groups were created (pre and post industrialization), in addition to separate chapters on various minority and immigrant groups. The one aspect that I'd like to see covered in this book is a separate chapter on theories of social change among minority groups. Nevertheless, I was so pleased with the book that I adopted it as the textbook for the year.
