Summary: Junk -- No Reciever Audio Punch Thru
Review: Great remote, except for one thing... You can't set the Volume+/- buttons to control the reciever. It is only set up to control the TV!

Don't believe the other review that says you can... Call Phillips at 919-573-7854 if you don't believe me!

Unbelievable they would leave out this feature. Other than that, it controls everything I have (RCA TV, Yamaha receiver, JVC 7-disc DVD, Symphonic VHS, Technics 100 CD, VOOM HD Sat, Zenith HD OTA, and Channel Master antenna rotor)!

This junk is going back tomorrow!

Summary: Does everything you need
Review: Hate having 5 remotes? Do you ever have to tell your guests "this one is for volume, this one is for channels"? This remote is a great value. The people complaining about no audio punch through are wrong. All you have to do is train the Vol. & Mute buttons for all the devices to your receiver remote. Voila! When in DVR mode, your volume buttons control the receiver volume.

Summary: ADVICE PLEASE
Review: I am trying to get this remote to work with my PHILIPS 900-series reciever. I can get it to do most things, but not switch inputs. I can't beleive that Philips would build a universal remote that would not even control their own products. Has anyone else had similar problems? Am I doing something wrong?

Summary: not a good remote
Review: I bought this remote nearly one year ago, so i have had a good amount of time to wrestle with this remote. I am a technology afficionado and demand a lot from my hardware. Initially when I bought this remote I was extremely happy with it. I got home and was able to program most of my home theater hardware into the remote with the phillips codes providing around 75% of the correct buttons for me.

At first I was frustrated by this but since the remote is a "learning" remote I wasn't fazed. I began to individually program the missing keys into my remote. To my chagrin many keys would simply not transfer no matter how many times I tried. However these were mainly buttons i didn't use too much so I didn't worry too much about it. The learning process worked decently well and I was able to get rid of around 4 remotes.

As time progress I began to find more and more annoying quirks of the remote. If you have a separate Amp that runs the audio for your home theater system you would naturally want to have the amp volume controls in each of the remote categories (TV, VCR, DVD etc). However, if you program a volume button the to volume keys it will not perform as a volume button should. IE when you press and hold the volume increase button it should continuously send the signal so that you don't have to push the button multiple times to raise the volume to the desired level. While using my home theater system more and more I realized I needed to add more buttons to the the remote than I had initially though I needed. These are buttons such as closed captioning, audio type, etc from the dvd. I could not get the closed captioning button to learn on any button at all. This was extremely frustrating as I now needed to keep my old remotes around in case I needed to use these buttons. What's the point in having a universal remote if you still need to use the old remotes???

Also the remote is SLOW. The response time between button pushes is extremely slow and maddening, especially when you are trying to thumb through a tv guide. I tried using this remote along side my original cable box remote and the difference was night and day. The cable box remote was like a race car with the philips remote a toyota corolla.

The last straw came when I needed to replace the batteries. I removed the old batteries and put in new ones and to my utter dismay ALL OF MY CODES WERE DELETED. 1 year of gradual work to get it how I liked it and everything was gone. I couldn't believe it. The advertisement stated that there was an internal battery so that this exact thing would not happen. Thus my time with this remote has come to a very bitter end. The remote still works but I am hesitant to even give it away to a friend cause I hate it so much.

Summary: NO Receiver Punch-Through
Review: I bought this remote to replace one that does not have as many features, but I was shocked to learn that this remote does not have Audio Punch-through to the Home Theater system! I find it unbelievable that Philips would give Full Home Theater support but would only allow audio punch-through to the TV!!??? This makes absolutely NO SENSE!!! Why would anyone be using the Audio on the TV if they have a Home Theater. I understand that not everyone has a home theater, but this remote is designed for just for one, as well as TiVo/ReplayTV, so why not give the user an option. Everyone I know that has a TiVo has a home theater system! Sure I can use use the learning functions but why should I. I want to use the marked "volume control", not some other keys. This one is going back and I'll steer clear of all Philips remotes!

Summary: It was a flop . . .
Review: I got this remote in May. It was great, it replaced 5 remotes in my bedroom, so that reduced a lot of clutter. It took a while to set up, but once I got all of the codes figured out it worked well.

Until now. The darn thing died. Just seized up. New batteries don't help. At $13 a month (I expedited shipping), I'd have to say it it was a pretty lousy value.

The worst part . . . it was over 30 days so Amazon won't replace it. It's not even heavy enough to use as a doorstop.

Don't get pulled in by the new low price . . . it's not worth it.

Summary: Very good remote for only 30 bucks
Review: I just got this remote several weeks ago when I got a TiVo. This thing does the job, and does it well. What I really love about this remote is that its a very nice to hold in your hand and very thin and light. Most remotes now a days are huge, bulky and annoying to navigate with. This one it's nice to hold in your hands and for only 30 bucks, it's a very good deal in my book. So as long as you do not need a LCD screen with lots of flashy features and don't want to pay a ton of money, I highly recommend this remote.

Summary: Great remote; don't lose the instructions
Review: I lost the directions (with the remote codes) to this, and I can't seem to find them online anywhere. Oh, well.

Other than that, it's a great remote, and it actually WILL pass along receiver volume controls. The trick is, you have to override the volume up, volume down, and mute buttons in the TELEVISION mode with learned frequencies from your receiver's remote. If the remote will control your receiver while in TV mode, it automatically passes along the customized codes to all the other modes, too.

Works great.
