Summary: Couple Years Later...
Review: ...and this product still works just as great as it always did. I had them about 2-3 years now, and from day one...the range is great, the response is great, the setup was great (all of three minutes), Terk is...well...great! The transmitter is downstairs at one end, the receiver upstairs on the opposite end (house has thick walls)...I have other Terk products (AV Transmitters/Receivers)...you guessed it, great!
Terk has a winner here, no doubt.

Summary: Slick!
Review: 2 weeks ago I would have said,"Remote control extender? What the heck is that?" Well I rearranged my house, my really great stereo ended up in another room with the speakers left behind at my work space. That was OK for about 1 hour...I got so tired of getting up and adjusting volume, changing channels, etc. There had to be a better way. Sure enough, this was it. There's 2 units...1 stays with the stereo and 1 stays with the remote control. You aim your remote at the 1 unit and it relays your electronic desires right thru walls to the other base unit and activates those controls. Nice. The unit is pretty powerful! I am sending a signal thru a wall that is composed of a 3' thick fireplace surfaced with 1' of fake rock. Needless to say it was pretty magical to me that the thing worked. Now when my clients come by and watch me waving the remote but no reciever is present they think I'm pretty magical.

Summary: Does not work with satellite TV
Review: As advertised I was hoping to be able to view tv in another room. The advertisement stated the product worked with satellite TV. I set it up which was very easy. The advertisement states it works within 100 ft. My other room was far shorter, yet I receive no reception at all.

Summary: Does not work past max 30-40 feet
Review: I feel scammed- I have the two links of the extender in direct site of each other, and about 30 feet from each other, and it barely works. Extend beyond that, or try adding an obstacle or a wall- and NOTHING! Do not waste your money on this product...Avenge my mistake and avoid this product!!!

Summary: Did not work for me.
Review: I had a Recoton DSC-IR100A, and it didn't work but maybe 1% of the time, so I thought I'd buy this one. Unfortunately, it only worked 10% of the time about 20ft away, passing through 1 wall. Setup was easy, but it would take numerous keypresses of the remote for anything to pick up. For example, even SLOWLY pressing channel 7221 on the remote, it might pick up 221, 21, 721 or nothing at all. I've tried moving both the transmitter and receiver to different locations, but that didn't help, only sometimes it would just completely not work at all. I doubt it's my satellite receiver or remote being incompatible, because the picture of the remote on the box is exactly the same as the Dishnetwork remote I'm using. Perhaps it is something with my house... all my PC's have wireless keyboards and mice, maybe they're on the same frequency? I have both 900MHz and 2.4GHz cordless phones, and an 802.11g wireless network. Not to mention I live near a cellular tower. Perhaps all this stray RF is confusing it since I've tried 2 different remote extenders and neither works. At any rate, I'm very disappointed, and this is going back.

Summary: Simple Solution
Review: I have a complicated A/V system in a closet, with the TV and in-wall speakers in another room. The Remote Extender works flawlessly, and took less than 5 minutes to set up.

Summary: Works Great
Review: I have been using the Leap Frog for a couple months now to Control my DirecTv w/Tivo receiver/DVR from another room about 20 feet away and have had no problems at all. The only thing that stopped me from giving this device 5 stars is that you need a direct line of sight from the receiving unit to what you are controlling. A person simply standing in the way stops it from working. Other remotes you can point at the ceiling and the IR is strong enough to bounce off and still work. This is only a minor issue to me. Overall, I am quit satisfied.

Summary: Stay away!!!!
Review: I never write reviews but I am so unhappy I am going to do it this time. I just received the Terk LF-IRX Remote Control Extender. I bought two units and neither one of them work even close to what I expected. I am only transmitting about 20 feet line of site through one floor and the receiver only gets the signal about 10% of the time.

Summary: Works great with Tivo, but needs to be setup 'just right'
Review: I purchased the Terk Leapfrog to control my Tivo from the bedroom, after running cables for the audio/video through the wall. In the end, this has worked excellently for me - so let me explain why it doesn't get the full 5 stars.

Initial setup with this product couldn't be easier. You simply unpack the two pieces, plug in the two included AC adapters - and that's it! I was surprised there was no programming it to accept certain IR codes... it just picks up whatever the remote might be throwing out, and relays it appropriately. When I first unpacked it, I set the one unit right in front of my Tivo, sitting about 2 inches from the Tivo's IR receiver. I took the other one into our bedroom and plugged it in. Presto - I could control the Tivo from the bedroom.

Now that I'd confirmed it worked, I went back to my living room to try and find a nice, out of the way place for the Terk Leapfrog to sit. It obviously had to have a clear line of sight to the Tivo... which I figued left me with plenty of choices. I tried putting it on a bookshelf, that was on quite an angle from the Tivo - but with no luck. I tried hiding it behind a picture frame (where is still had a clear line of sight to the Tivo) on a table that was closer to the Tivo... but again no luck. I went on to try 4-5 other places around the room, but could never make it work consistently.

Finally, I placed it *behind* the tivo, and used the included IR 'extender' (which is a little cable, with a peanut sized IR transmitter on the end). I snaked this little cord under the tivo, and then attached the little IR transmitter so it's aiming right at the Tivo's IR reciever. This, finally, worked. Just for comparison, I can aim my Tivo remote almost anywhere in the room and have the signal picked up by the Tivo, so I'm confident that the Tivo is not the problem here.

So... The good thing about this product is that it does work... the bad thing is that it seems it needs to be aimed by a professional sharpshooter to get the signal to your device.

Pros:
-Super fast setup
-Works great with your Tivo

Cons:
-Hard to get the 'placement' of the IR sender just right.

Summary: Terk comes thru
Review: I was a little sceptical about this product living up to the manufactures claims. I bought this to control a cable box in the basement which was hooked up to a tv upstairs and one in the basement. When I first set the Terk product up, the receiver in the basement and the transmitter on the first floor, you needed to press the button on the remote multiple times before the action was received and carried out. The problem was the receiver, although within 1ft and pointing directly at the cable box, seemed not to relay the signal accurately. The issue was resolved with the addition of the remote eye extender (included), which plugs into the receiver and then placed directly onto the IR sensor (of the cable box). The system then worked flawlessly, the only small snag is you have to be within 15ft or so of the transmitter and point your remote directly at it.

I am pleased with the product and would recommend it.
