Summary: We're still married!!
Review: After many channel surfing arguments, I bought this remote for my husbands birthday. Now he uses the remote to find out what's on TV. Peace at last, it even works our new DVD.

Summary: It's just NOT worth the headaches
Review: After recieving one as a gift, I was pretty excited. That excitement waned, however, after 5 hours of troubleshooting it and trying to get the thing to synch with the GuideRemote website for the content. Additionally, while the remote supports a lot of VENDORS, there are really only a FEW DEVICES PER VENDOR that are supported.

Sure, it's nice to have the guide on the screen (I really dont know as I never did get feature to work) but I'd hoped this thing would be an easy replacement for an original remote which was sat upon. All of the features are there for the 1 or 2 devices that it actually controls (yeah but you can put em in there 16 times - ooohhhh, ahhhh) but the functions are so cumbersome to access and rarely in any kind of order, alphabetical or otherwise - Browse;Cancel;Lock;List;Theme;B-O (where's the rest of the letters??). The functions can also be quite crytpic: "A (Diamond)" or "Reserved 5" (why even put THAT in there?).

The buttons on the remote are NOT PROGRAMMABLE!!! so get used to scrolling forever thru pages and pages of menus to get to the functions (13 pages for my cable box), and that's just to get to the BASIC CONTROLS like "Guide" "Up" "Down" "Left" "Right" etc.

Maybe if the guide actually worked, I wouldn't NEED to get to those as it'd be right there on the remote but...

Summary: Great Remote with a TV Guide
Review: Basically, in the remote area, this one is pretty powerful and pretty easy to use. It's really the first one that got rid of the other three "universal" remotes I was using.

Once I got through the relatively easy set-up phase, the remote was able to control every device I own. Looking at the list of what's in their library, you'd be hard pressed to find something it doesn't control.

Anyway, all this is good but why spend this much money to replace a few extra remotes? Actually, the best reason to buy this thing is because it's got a guide in it. You actually download a tv guide from the internet that is displayed on your remote. No more scroll, no more overlay. You can surf channels right on the remote without interrupting what you're watching. This may sound like no big deal, but believe me, when you try it, it absolutely changes how you watch TV. No more complaints from the wife about surfing. Another annoying thing that it eliminates is the number of channels you need to surf. You can go on their wesite and customize your channel line-up to only the stuff you want to surf. You can skip all the CSPAN channels...

All and all it's a great product that is probably a bit ahead of it's time. Other than a few buttons that you need to look for to find, it's well designed and works great. I highly recommend it for people who love TV and want some simple interactivity along with a much much much better guide.

Summary: It's just NOT worth the headaches
Review: For about twenty bucks more, you can get yourself a TiVo and record shows to be watched later, use "trick play" like pause, fast-forward and rewind, and instant replay. Not to mention the fact that you can skip commercials! TiVo has a programming guide that runs TWO WEEKS in advance, so you could see whats coming on two fridays from now. If you need a real remote, pick up a Sony universal remote and buy yourself a TiVo, it's well worth it. I guarantee that you'll never even use another remote besides your TiVo's!

180 bucks is a joke for this remote. A Phillips Pronto is a much cooler remote for the price. Stay away from this remote!

Summary: Great Gift for TV Lover
Review: I recieved this as a gift from my wife for x-mas. I'm the gadget guy and she's always teasing me about it. Anyway, I set up the remote and got it working pretty quickly. The menu system is very easy to understand. There are some features missing but all and all, this is a great remote if you watch a lot of TV. The guide is much better than the one on my direct tv system. Only problem is that now my wife won't give it back. She's taken over the remote. Small price to pay for peace on the sofa.
