Rating: Summary: Leaves you thinking... Review: Wow... I read this book in a single afternoon. In the beginning of the book I was thinking "this Alex/Chris kid is a definite nutcase". By the end of the book I was thinking that I too could take off to Alaska and spend some time there. The story is full of the beauty of life, of sad and pathetic irony, and of a tragic death. He led such an interesting life, and yet by the end of the book I still could not decide whether I thought he was crazy, arrogant, ignorant, or just out for adventure like the rest of us. A very good read.
Rating: Summary: A young man tests himself in the wild Review: Chris McCandless,well-educated son of a well-off family took himself off to Alaska for an adventure to test himself solo against the wilds. He sold most of his possesions and took the most minimal amount of equipment with him for his survival test. Why he did this, and his ultimate fate, were unraveled by Jon Krakauer in this dramatic account. Itis a true story. Krakauer felt drawn to Chris McCandless because as a young man, he also had tested himself against nature and danger by attempting a solo climb of the Devil's Thumb. This affinity led him on the trail of what happenend to Chris, intuitively finding the motive and thoughts that were not revealed in the little notebook that Chris left behind in an abandoned shell of a bus, where he met his end in the wilds of Alaska. Strangely, Chris might have survived were it not for a simple and understandable mistake, or if he had taken more than the extreme minimum with him on his quest. Some people felt he had sought his death and that his adventure was suicidal. However, his struggle was heroic and probably was a case of a very intense and sincere young man trying to test himself in the purest way, against the monstrous forces of nature. This is a sad story, but also uplifting in a way. The intensity of Chris McCandless and his search for himself won't be forgotten by anyone who reads this book.
Rating: Summary: Into the Wild Review: Jon Krakauer did a wonderful job of retracing the life of Chris McCandless. The book really draws you into what Chris is feeling and why he gave up his collge degree and promising life to go into the wild. The conversations with some of Chris' friend are deeply moving. Krakauer's own journey gives a deeper look into what Chris was feeling. His dedication to Chris' life shows how movitate one can be. Chris transformed from a city boy to someone living purely off the land because of his own determination.
Rating: Summary: Into The Wild Review: Into the Wild is an excellent book which is written very creatively by Jon Krakauer. Jon Krakauer does a great job of portraying Chris McCandless's life and relating the lives of other adventurer's like Chris to his life, giving the reader a better understanding of such a strange and bizarre life Chris decieded to live. I really enjoyed reading this book because it is written very differently and is an interesting story. Not only is Chris McCandless's story an interesting story but all the lives of the other characters the author relates his life to are just as interesting enhancing the book greatly. It is exciting to read and makes you really want to keep reading all the way through. I recommend this book for any type of reader, because anyone will enjoy reading about the interesting life Chris and other characters deciede to live.
Rating: Summary: Freedom of the Independent Traveller Review: In search of self-discovery and freedom from the shackles of society, Chris McCandless goes on a journey to Alaska. On his journey Chris finds himself and touches the lives of others in his wake. Although he died before he could share his story, the author, Jon Krakauer, uses his own experiences and the experiences of others to understand Chris's plight and reasons for his journey. The author's use of interviews and people Chris had met helped to give Chris a human side as opposed to making him a subject that people could not relate to. I enjoyed this book because I understand Chris's own natural call to the wilderness and his need to get away from society.
Rating: Summary: The Idealist Mind - One of Complication, One of Meaning Review: This novel portrayed the truly personal motivations that caused Chris McCandless to throw opporuntiy and promise by the wayside in hope of finding truth and inner tranquility in nature. Despite having achieved more than most, his resentment towards our empty society drove him to seek answers in a harsh Alaskan frontier. His individual spirit felt contained by societal standards, standards he despised. Chris was not crazy. Simply, he was a seeker. He wanted answers. Most humans want answers. Most of us decide to either accept the ones we are given or live without knowing. Chris wanted none of this. He sought answers, his own answers. His individuality has caused some to question his intentions. Some doubt his sanity. Christopher McCandless was perfectly sane, saner than most. He simply wanted to find HIS own conclusions and stop allowing others to lead HIS life. A feeling many have, yet few act upon. His adventure cost him his life, but provided him with a newfound happiness he had never come to know. I admire Chris McCandless and so should you.
Rating: Summary: A reckless but smart young man Review: A guy, who changed his name to Alex Supertramp, left everything that he had, even his own family and made his way to his new adventure- to the Alaskan wilderness. The courage that he had was a marvelous act compare to thousands of people in this world. He just didn't believe in his own vigor but he also think that nature is not harmful. Afterwards, that's what he underestimate his own strength. He eventually died because of starvation. But what actually was on his mind? If you really want to know the answer you can find it in the book "Into the wild" By Jon Krakauer.
Rating: Summary: A frustated Adventure Review: "Men a Woman are free, but they have be responsible for their own actions and they have to accept the consequences that these actions can bring". Christopher Johnson McCandless walked into the deep in Alaska, trying to archive his goal, to make a dream come true. He left everything, his car, his family, his own future, only because he wanted to know how far he could go. And he did it, he died knowing how far he went, and also trying to go back the time, because he realized that all the thing that he left, were more important that his own stupid dream. In my opinion, Chris was a good kid, I admire him, because he had a strong temperament, and I like that kinds of people, but sometimes we have to control our self because we can do stupid things, as Chris did. I recommend this book, for those people who like adventure stories and true stories. I make me think how far a kid can go only for archive his goal, and the consequences that you can have.

Rating: Summary: Into the Wild Review: I have never read something like this before. Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer it is a very interesting book. When I started reading the very first page it seemed to be a very good book, but now that I already finished it, it is amazing and hard to believe how the author (Jon Krakauer) described the unfortunate life of Chris Mcandless. I truly recommend this book to everyone.
