Summary: The third temptation
Review: Because Chris McCandless died in the Alaska wilderness, Jon Krakauer wrote an account of his life. He was not crazy. His story reminds me of the Greek myth of Icarus who fashioned wings for himself out of feathers and wax. People warned him not to fly too close to the sun as its heat could melt the wax. Heedless of the warnings, he did so and fell to his death. Going into the wilderness on an adventure, or to prove oneself is nothing new. According to Mathew 4: 1-11, the original Chris was "led up by the spirit into the wilderness". There the devil presented him with three temptations (these are the classical ones for humans in all ages). After fasting for a long time, Jesus was hungry. The first temptation (material wealth, greed), turn bread to stones was rejected. The second, power over everyone, likewise rejected. The third temptation, to throw oneself from a high place to be saved by the angels, was rejected because scripture prohibits tempting God. Not content to be like the rest of us, Chris McCandless wanted to be special: saved by the angels. See "IN THE NAME OF GOD PLEASE REMAIN TO SAVE ME" page 197. Maybe Chris McCandless finally rejected this third temptation. Had he lived he might have emerged with enough love for all of us and a clear view of our common limitations, to become a great teacher. But by then it was too late. Maybe he came to realize that freedom is valuable only if it serves a worthwhile purpose. In the end he blessed us all! Yes, it is a most thought-provoking book.

Summary: An unbiased and exciting tale of an unusual adventurer
Review: Jon Krakauer is a top-notch journalist who had his work cut out for him in tracing the eccentric travels of Chris McCandless, an educated young man who starved to death in the Alaskan outback. Was McCandless an irresponsible fool, a daring adventurer, or a devout truth seeker? The best part of Krakauer's book is that he lets you decide for yourself. He offers his personal insights into the reasons McCandless took up a life of wandering, but largely lets the facts speak for themselves. The book is replete with excerpts from McCandless' journals and letters, as well as accounts from the many people who encoundered McCandless during his travels.

Summary: Brave New World
Review: I have come to realize that Alex may be one of the few souls on this planet who understands the meaning of life. Does having a 9-5 job and owning all the newest possesions mean that you are alive? He was a brave soul who looked beyond the consumer life of America, and lead his life how he wanted. This was truly a beautiful book written by one of my favorite authors. Always remember, "All men die, but not all men truly live."

Summary: Become Lost..
Review: While lost within the pages of Into the Wild, a masterfully written (& researched!) account of Christopher McCandless's last couple years on earth, Jon Krakauer reminds me of the significance nature holds for human beings. With an incredibly engaging format and use of language, Krakauer reveals not only Chris's perplexing story, but the astonishing adventures of other Hard-Core outdoors-men, as well as his own. This book holds such deep content for the reader, should they choose to fully examine and contemplate it. My favorite part, however, is the way it's told. I have rarely read a story so beautifully, expertly, written. Jon Krakauer demonstrates his genius with apparent ease. An EXCELLENT book for the nature-lover's Self.

Summary: Why Glorify This Stuff?
Review: I was horrified all the way through this book. The man described was clearly suffering from a mental illness. The book was written as if to glorify an irresponsible way of life. This was not an adventure, it was about a man who could not cope with life, and tried to escape into a fantasy land of no people. And, his feeble and naive attempt killed him.

Summary: A mysterious documetary
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It is one of those books that makes you think. It is not only a very well written documentary written in such a way that it doesn't feel like you are reading a documentary at all but it feels like you are reading a mysterious and quite scary story actually. A young man from a wealthy family who leaves all of his belongings and all of his life behind and takes off to the wilderness of Alaska to find his own life but four months later he is found dead. This book makes you read between the lines and think about why the main character really did what he did. I really like the way how each chapter starts with a couple of lines or a paragraph by another writer that describes what is happening in the book or why someone did what they just did.

Summary: An Alaskan Adventure
Review: I really liked this true story of the life of Chris (Alex) McCandless. I found it hard to put down because I wanted to understand why such a young person like Chris would drop his whole life to travel to Alaska to survive out in the wild. There was a lot of wonderful description of the ruthless environment in Alaska. Jon Krakauer used Chris's diary towards the end to capture what was really going on and what really happened to Chris while he was living off the land. The only thing I would change about the book would be the way Jon Krakauer organized the story because it gets confusing when he skips from the future and then changes to the past. If I were to give any sort of tips on the organization of the book, it would definitely be chronological order. But if you like adventure and want to read non-fiction, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: very exciting adventure
Review: Into The wild is a book of great adventure. Following Alex's every step is indeed hard to do with all his moving and all. I really enjoyed this book because it is something that does go on in the world today. Having the book starting out with finding Alex dead and all really gets the flow of the story of how it all happened. Every few chapters the author decided to go back to the specific scene were they found the old bus and Alex in it. The reason for this I believe is to make the reader think about the stories were Alex has traveled and what he has been through which brings the reader's thought and imagination back to the tragic scene were Alex was found dead. I am glad that I had the chance to read this book because this book has been one of the best books that I have read.

Summary: A great book!
Review: Into The Wild was one of the best books that I have read in a long time. All of the plots and the sub-plots make this book a great book to read for leisure and if you need a book to read for school. The main Character in this book is a young man name, Chris McCandless. Chris brings a great twist to this book. He was in graduate school, but he drop out to become a nomad. Chris burns all his money and cuts off all contact with everyone he knows and hits the road on a wild and adventures journey. I would suggest this book to everyone interested in reading a good and adventures book. This book is easy to read and is also easy to understand. So Into The Wild is going to make you want to read all types of books that are similar just go get this book.
