Summary: This book is a good bibliography, not a good story.
Review: This book is great if you want to know a whole lot about nothing. Krakauer writes about a boy Chris that all of a suddend decides to pick up and go live in Alaska with nothing but a gun, a couple of books, some rice, and the clothes on his back. This could be a good story but the author turns this into a bibliography of his whole life. The author rambles on and on and on and on and on about nothing. First Chris did this and then Chris did that, then he met him, then he met her, then he went here, then he went there, he was like this person, he was like that person, the whole book is like this. Sometimes I thought that the author was putting some chapters in the book just to make it longer. If you are wanting to know about Chris McCandless and his life this is a book for you. The author has put a lot of time and a lot of work researching and analyzing the life of Chris. But if you are looking for a action packed exciting book you will not find it here.

Summary: An excellent story caught in a not-so-excellent book.
Review: The story of Chris McCandless and his search for "life" as defined by Thoreau and Jack London is a compelling one. McCandless didn't live by socieies' rules and his thoughts about society and life should give readers a lot to think about. Unfortunately his views are hidden under "Into the Wild" and Krakauer's attempt to justify McCandless's lifestyle. The story would have been much more powerful and thought provoking had it been told without all of the additions of Krakauer.

Summary: What I think of Chris McCandless and this book.
Review: I thought that Jon Krakauer gave a good impression of Chris. It must have been hard to locate the people and places where Chris has been. Although, parts of the book confused me because Krakauer added in other stories of people like Chris and his own story. Chris was a well educated man. He was no ordinary fellow by all means. I think he was to smart for his own good but also stupid in his thinking of life. He is also irrogant because he never listened to anyone, and he thought he was always right. He was good in all the things he did but wasn't excellent, because he thought he needed no help from anyone. He wasn't suicidal when he left for his last and final trip of his life, but I do think he was a little out of his mind. I don't think that living in the Alaska bush is crazy, if you have the proper supplies and the knowledge. Chris went into the wild with very little knowledge and supplies. He didn't know the area he was in and lucky he survived as long as he did. I think that he would have died long before he did if the bus wasn't there. I think he went to far over the edge with this surviving on his own. The books that he read gave him the impression that he could live in the wilderness and survive by himself. I also think that he is selfish because of the family he left behind. He could of at least communicated with them from time to time. I do not think that he is psycho but I do think that he was out of his mind. Not because he made this trip. It is because he made it being illprepared and to prove to himself that he could survive when he really couldn't.

Summary: A tragic story of a man in search of inner-peace
Review: Into the Wild depicts the adventures of a young adult who does not fit into the American society. Through his adventures and self-discovery he finds a greater peace of mind and soul. This book is for readers who are searching for that, a new perspective on life, and a sense of inner-freedom. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and related with Chris McCandless. Jon Krakauer did a good job portraying the character of Chris and also gave supporting evidence to help the reader further understand the character of McCandless.

Summary: This was a book that looks at ultimate choices in life.
Review: Chris McCandless chose to go into the wild unprepared and living off the land. He was in search for something that he never found. He mad the ultimate sacrifice to lead a life of his choice. He left his life of luxury to travel through the western United States for several months leaving behind a trail of people he met and influenced. Eventually ending up in Alaska, he lived off the land for a couple of months and then parished. This book explains that people sometimes just have to live differently than most of society. I think Chris's whole plan was to die in the wilderness and see how people reacted when they found out all that he had been through. Chris was a very selfish person he did not care how he made other people feel. He claimed that his life was the best life and everyone should live his way. This whole trip he took was an adventure to get attention. He acomplished his goal because there now is a book about him and everyone can hear his story.

Summary: Into the wild was a good book.
Review: When reading the book "Into the Wild" I was captivated by Krakauer's protrayel of Chris McCandless. I thought that the book was very interesting. I liked the fact that Krakauer did plenty of research on where Chris had traveled and the people he met. The reading was a little drawn out because everytime he added a new character he did a complete background on him. But I thought that all in all it was a good stratigy to show all the people that Chris came in contact with and how he affected there lives. I was a little confused about the timeline that Krakauer used. It felt like a lot of the time he would skip around and grouped his thoughts in to the places that Chris had been. I also liked how Krakauer interjected his own experiences in the book. I think that this made him a more credible writer because of the fact that he had done some camping and climbing so he knew what Chris was facing. I thought that putting in his climbing story at the latter half of his book was a little distracting from the main plot but still effective. All in all I thought that this book was very interesting to read. I thought that Krakauer did a good job researching this subject and protrayed Chris McCandless the best that he could.

Summary: Young man tyring to find himself
Review: Krakauer did an excellent job of writing this book on Chris McCandless, who was a young man trying to find his place in the world. McCandless didn't leave many clues and wasn't real close to his family so it took a lot of time and research to write this book. McCandless was very selfish as portrayed in this book, but was also generous. Most people who just finished college wouldn't give away over 24,000 dollars and a car that their parents would buy them. He is selfish however, because he never lets his family know where he is at or even if he is still alive. Many young adults want to get away and find out who they really are, but not many actually do it. We should all applaud Chris for trying. Since he is no longer with us, no one will ever know if he ever found himself; but I think he did because he always said he was having a good time in his journal. This is a very well written book that I suggest everyone to read.

Summary: Interesting book, slow at times.
Review: This book illustrates the kind of bravery and adventure that you don't see much of today. I think that Chris McCandless was able to say that he was as real as he could be and that is most likely more than I will be able to say for my self when all is said and done. People may critisize and call Chris crazy, but I wonder how many of them can truly say that they are doing or accompling what they want out of life. Krakauer did a fine job of helping us look through the eyes of Chris McCandless a young man who lived his short life the way he wanted.

Summary: Great start but tailed off
Review: I felt that the intial start of the story was well written and of couse was the main point of the story part. the story of mccandless himself was interesting to read while after he died the story tailed off and it was hard to keep my attention on the initial story at hand. i felt that the personal experiences and stories of people that didn't really apply to mccandless himself was kind of bland and uninteresting to read. at least krakauer could have put his experince at the beginning of the book so the reader would know about the authors opinion before he started reading the book. i believe that the story about chris himself was very interesting and the story was written real well. i felt as thought the author had done a fine job of research before the book was written.

Summary: unnecessary inserts take away from the McCandless story
Review: I thought that 'Into the Wild' by Krakauer was a very well researched and well written book. I like to hear about the journeys of Mcanddles however, I thought that the inserts about other men like Chris were unnecessary and took away from the actual story. Right when the story was getting really good and interesting all of the sudden there were these 3 chapters about other people making journeys like Chris. I just didn't feel that the placement of these 3 chapters was a good choice, they took your mind off the actual story and didn't really have alot of relevence to what was going on. Other than that I really enjoyed the book and though it was pretty well written.
