Summary: McCandless' Dreadful Journey
Review: I believe that Chris McCandless was doomed from the beginning of his journey. He didn't take proper precautions before embarking on the Alaskan trip into the obviously unknown. If only he had taken some consideration into the climate and temperatures of the land, and taken into account the advice of the numerous Alaskans he crossed paths with, his journey might have been a success. I realize that Chris wanted to disengage any communication with his family, which in my opinion was very selfish. Even in extreme cases, I can not imagine anyone wanting to purposefully give up all ties with their family. In his situation, they had nothing in common, but I think he could have worked something out with them. Overall, I think that he just had a bad call with nature. Maybe if the people he met along the way got in touch with his emotions, or touched him in a special way, he would have listened to them. However, one never knows. I think Jon Krakauer is a good author. By adding the personal accounts of other brave people who tried to walk in the wild, helps the story along and gives it some life. It shows that no matter how Chris' journey came to an end, there are others out there willing to take risks too. I was very pleased with reading the novel, and I definitely recommend it. Summary: One Great Adventure!!!
Review: My feelings on this book are that it is written for a good cause and told the story of a young man that lived an adventure worth writing about. Krakauers expert opinion in living and wanting to go into the wild on his own adds to the story of young Chris McCandless's wild thoughts and adventures. Krakauer also did alot of research on the main character of his story to try to tell the adventures in the point of veiw of how McCandless truly saw them. This research is a added bonus to the story itself making it seem more relevent and more appreciative towards what McCandless went through. A book that will make you think about the way you live your live now. An all around great story with lots of insight. Josh Linebaugh

Summary: A Thought Provoking Book!
Review: I enjoyed the book, but the format was a little different than most books. The whole book is written as a reflection on Chris McCandless's life. The plot is relatively similar to many other authors' "go out into the wild and discover yourself" type of theme, but Krakauer takes this idea one step farther. I did enjoy the reading, and the flow and style of the book was really good, but the book dragged on. It seems like Krakauer went into to much detail. The vocabulary used seemed appropriate for the age group that this book is geared for. I would recommend this book. -Craig B

Summary: Amazing, Emotinal....., and Life
Review:

I really like this book in the perspective that I sometimes feel like the character. Krakauer brought out emotions of Chris McCandless. He expressed it very well. I'm not trying to say that Krakauer expressions of McCandless is right, but to some point it seems reasonable. It is hard for someone to know and understand what someone is thinking. I give credit to Krakauer for having the courage to try to understand McCandless and the courage to write McCandless' mind.

Chris McCandless' story is very stunning to most people, but to me it's the most amazing thing for someone to have the strength to leave society and come to a peaceful world of his. If one day, I had gathered enough strength to do what Chris did. I would try find my world.

This book was really amazing and I enjoyed reading it.

Summary: Mcandless was very childlike in his actions.
Review: I did not like John Krakuer's book Into The Wild. I had trouble following Krakuer's feelings on McCandless's journey. I feel that Chris McCandless was an angry, self absorbed individual, who believed that if he journeyed into nowhere he would be able to show his parents who was boss. Instead his selfish act backfired and nature showed McCandless who was boss.

Summary: Attention Grabbing...this book reels you in.
Review: I read Into the Wild as required reading for my college English class. At first I really didn't care what the book had to offer, but as I read I became very captivated by the whole story. I think what really got to me was that this was a true story. This tragic story of a young man letting himself die in the Alaskan wilderness was haunting and the author does a magnificent job of setting the tone of the book. Sometimes the reader feels as if he were there in the wilderness struggling as Chris did. We learn what led up to the death of this young man and you find yourself hoping he doesn't die, even though you know the outcome. The author does a great job of adressing the controversial issues surrounding this story and really gives you personal insight into what he believes happened. Overall this was a very well written book. It keeps your attention as a good book should, but at the same time slaps you in the face with the cold reality that it really did happened and leaves you wanting more answers.

Summary: ...take note of a tragic event...
Review: Krakauer's style seems to come across in blocks of information and a bit hard to gather. The book itself is an easy to read, hard to put down, and causes us to sit and think about our own successes or downfalls. (trivial compared to Chris's life.) Scott B.

Summary: Eloquently done
Review: Krakeur has eloquently written a book on a subject few people seem to understand - the intrinsic need that some young men feel to let go of the clutches today's society has on us and to find their sense of self in nature. Though I was unable to relate to McCandless' feelings, Krakauer's book gave me an understanding and an appreciation of the things through which Chris went. Krakauer's divergence from the actual story - quotations before each chapter, chapters devoted to entirely different stories, etc - broadened the picture and gave a more round approach to the story. All in all, this book was incredibly well done.

Summary: A mysterious book you do not want to put down
Review: The adventurer Chris McCandless was very interesting to read about. It amazed me how not once did the author mention or find out about any life-threatening encounter McCandless may have had while hitchhiking the country.

Summary: Moving!
Review: This book depicts a person who tries to change himself into a new man. In the process he finds a new way of life. When it seems he is coming to his end, he tries to change back to his old ways, only to find his death. Good book and an easy read. **Jason R.**
