Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Review: "I've never seen anything like Tao of Skiing. It covers every imaginable topic for skiers of all abilities and does so in a fun, entertaining way. I recommend it highly." - Lynne Bermel, Third Ranked in the World for Ironman Distance, Triathlon

Summary: Great idea, poor execution.
Review: ...I'm an enthusiastic XC skier, and amateur web site developer. I really wanted to like this 'book'. It is really a big web site, delivered on a CD. It has a number of little film clips that are really slow over the web at current bandwidth rates, so delivering it on a CD is a good decision. And the authors clearly know the subject matter really well.

So why only 2 stars? Well, the organization of the 'web site' is really poor. If you have read the book 'Web sites that suck', you will recognize lots of the techniques used here. There are numerous times where the authors vote for flash over useful organization.

Most of the content here is very good. I think that sports instruction books will generally benefit from the ability to show video sequences that illustrate the points discussed in the text. I've enjoyed and benefited from both XC technique books and videos. I'm sure that a blend of the book and video forms can work well together. This first attempt is NOT it, not yet. I really hope that they revise it - this is a ground-breaking effort - the authors and the XC ski community both deserve better.

Summary: What a fun way to study technique
Review: A CD-ROM; I do not know why someone did not think of this before. It is great. I spent hours digesting hundreds of hints on everything from technique, to training and playing the fun and informative Quicktime videos. It is not often that you can look into a decade worth of training diary entries and training notes of a World Cup Gold medalist.

Summary: The First CD-ROM for high performance XC skiing
Review: Hi Fi Full Motion Video and over 300 pages of Animated Text...

Tao of Skiing provides a comprehensive insight into the technical aspects of modern cross-country skiing, where the secrets are in the basics and the way (Tao) is in the correct preparation and execution of the details. The book is an exposé of key information from the world of elite xc skiing which is designed to fast track the development of specific skills and fitness. Beginners and Experts will benefit from the richness of ski tips, generous use of photos and intelligent explanations.

Summary: Brilliant Idea!
Review: I bought the CD-ROM not knowing what to expect having read most books and seen most videos on cross-country skiing.

Integrating both video and text was a brilliant idea. When you consider Tao of Skiing must have been conceived pre-1998, doing everything up as a web site was visionary for the time.

The instructional information was priceless and the little videos were an unexpected treat. I would like to see the videos on DVD in the future.

I understand that the same company XCZONE is putting out a film this year.

Summary: Totally Amazing
Review: I was completely blown away with this CD-ROM. The information is priceless and the multimedia presentation was captivating. It is good to see some world class skiers putting together something that can inform both beginners and elite skiers alike.
