Rating: Summary: Have Binoculars and the Peterson Guide in Hand Review: This guide offers excellent photographic representations of every bird you can imagine in a well designed format. Accompaning each picture is a brief written decsription of the bird which include differentiating features from similiar birds. Each birds range is illustrated with maps at the back of the book. Searching through the pictures to make an identification can be tedious at times. However, I have never closed this book without finding my subject. On the trail or sitting in your backyard, you will find this book exceptionally helpful.

Rating: Summary: Average Review: This is an average guide, with typical drawings a la Peterson. While the drawings show what a typical specimen should look like, I find that they don't show enough detail. This is a good book to contrast the Stokes guide which shows photos of the birds.
Rating: Summary: A BEAUTIFUL GUIDE OF OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS! Review: Whether you are a serious bird watcher or simply want to be able to identify your feathered friends in the garden, this is an excellent book which I would highly recommend. It is well-organized and easy to read with clear and precise illustrations. The fascinating thing I did discover about this book is that while you may start off as a novice, the more you read, the more fascinating the subject becomes. There is also a section at the beginning of the book on how to identify birds (a terrific plus) and the range maps located at the end of the book are also quite helpful. Overall, the book contains such a vast amount of information, it is a little overwhelming at first, but the endless supply of knowledge contained in this beautiful book makes it an excellent addition to your resource library.
