Summary: A wonderful book about a wonderful man.
Review: What I found really refreshing about Tenzing's book was his honesty. He tells of his time in New Delhi when he would point out Mount Everest to tourists. Many guides would point to a nearer peak which looked far more impressive than Everest, but Tenzing would always indicate the correct one. He also is quite frank about wishing that he had successfully climbed the mountain with the earlier Swiss expedition, who he felt had a better attitude towards the Sherpas than the British did. Finally, and this may surprise many readers because they perhaps heard about it only recently from Ed Hillary, he reveals who reached the top of Everest first. If you can get hold of a copy of this book you will be well rewarded. The writing is that of James Ramsey Ullman, but the essence is Tenzing Norgay. May his spirit live forever in the mountains he loved and respected.
