Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Well considered history of Hilton Head
Review: A carefully considered review of Hilton Head, SC since its development as a world-leading resort. Danielson's extensively researched, scholarly book discusses several important factors in modern, orchestrated community development.

Danielson describes in detail the transition from plantation-driven Hilton Head to a multi-focused community that remains largely dependent on tourism. The competing interests of developers, residents, retirees, tourists, and businesses are well-explained, as are the challenges of rapid growth.

It is an excellent handbook for development in environmentally sensitive areas and for 'destination-oriented' developments. I only wish that Danielson had included more maps of both the individual plantations, and more detailed maps of Hilton Head.
Highly recommended.
