Rating: Summary: A very nice general reference shell book. Review: A nice general reference; I like the features of depth offered and relative abundence. I would give this another star if it only had more representative species. Still, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Most complete reference for the amateur collector Review: As a begginner in shell collecting I have looked at many shell handbooks and find this one to be the best guide to identifying and classifying the shell in hand. It is comprehensive and descriptive to the degree that if the specific shell isn't listed the descriptions of the class are enough to go on to describe whatever shell I have found. But the great number of shell photos are very helpful and usually show what I am looking for. I like the way the families and classes are represented. There is enough information to inform me and yet, it doesn't boggle me down with a biology dissertation. More than any other quide, this one helps me the most.

Rating: Summary: A shell collector's dream guide. Review: For shell collectors and enthusiasts, this is a great reference guide. The incredible variety of shapes and colors are beautifully displayed in this amazing book. I first saw this book on my local library shelves, and realized I had to add it to my own book collection. Actually, I was also surprised at how inexpensive it was. Many hours will be spent pouring over the photos and information that this book has to offer.
Rating: Summary: A very nice general reference shell book. Review: I purchased this book after finding a multitude of unusual shells on barrier islands after a hurricane. This is a beautiful book with brilliant color pictures of each shell. These is a quick reference guide that shows a variety of information including location, water depth, average size, scientific, and common names. Also the star system that identifies whether the shell is common/uncommon/rare. Each time we visit the beach/islands, my kids and I look forward to identifying our shell treasures. The kids get really excited when we find a two star shell (uncommon). Great as a coffee table book also, I often find my guests thumbing through it.

Rating: Summary: Best guide I've found, with accurate info and pictures. Review: I've used many different shell guides to identify my finds, but this one has enough pictures to show which of the many species I may be looking for. Also, I like the detailed info and the star rating system for indicating rare/common/uncommon. For the amateur collector trying to sort out family, genus and species, this guide gives a clear picture of the information.
Rating: Summary: 1200 types of shells, pictured and detailed. Review: This book is a complete guide to starting or maintaining a shell collection. With over 1200 types of shells pictured, information is given on each as to where (and what depth) they are found, how common or rare they are, and more. An illustrated identification guide helps the reader to find the shell within the book. Beautifully photographed and printed.
Rating: Summary: Invaluable source of information for the pro or amature. Review: This is one of the best shell identification books I have ever seen. Not only is it perfect for the amature, but for the professional as well. We use it in our business everyday. The color photography is fantastic, this book also makes a great tabletop book.
