Summary: People all over the world have to think about those problem
Review: The book has pointed out some problems which definitely will affect our future on the poor Earth. Chinese people should pay more attention on those problems, because overpopulation and overusing resources would ruin our homeland and slow down economic development. I appreciate the book that can help more people to realize the severity of those difficulties, and encourage people to struggle with those ugly things in the world.

Summary: A good summary of the problem, but too much bias.
Review: This book clearly shows the current state of the relationship between the world and the human race. It does an excellent job of showing how and why we have reached the crisis point that we now find ourselves. It also informs us why physiologically we find it hard to see and fix the ecological problems we have created . These problems show up in ourselves, society and organizations. They are all derived from our own personal evolutionary needs and express themselves in our larger areas of concern. Having shown us how we got to where we are today the author then proceeds to show us possible solutions to our situation. This is where the reality of how he argues his case hits me. He seems to want to fix blame while at the same time say it is natural to want to do nothing if it does not seem broken. If we are going to blame prior presidential administrations we can't just blame Republicans. What about the damage by Clinton, Carter or Johnson? Didn't Clinton promise much and achieve little? Napalm does much damage to the environment and no talk about Johnson? This book is too biased for my taste. It needs a little/lot more balance. At present it is not there. By not building in balanced arguments, the solutions presented become impossible. The lack of fairness leads to lack of credibility.

Summary: Thought-provoking unbiased discussion of environ. damage.
Review: This book is a straightforward discussion of why we ignore damage to our environment (and to ourselves). It also offers many worthwhile suggestions as to how we can fix those problems. Frankly, we can no longer afford the luxury of feeling politically sensitive. (I've long ago forgiven Reagan for saying environmentalists would not be happy until they turned the White House into a bird's nest :). Regardless of our political affiliations, we must all look beyond ourselves and pull together to fix our environmental problems before it is too late. There is much to think about in this book, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Rationale for the book
Review: We are doing many things to reduce environmental and other serious problems. Nevertheless, overall, our situation is growing worse. We know much of what is wrong, we know what to do, but our efforts are mostly half hearted fixes. If a train is bearing down on you, you do not half get off the track. We are stuck in a situation like this, and that is dangerous. Looking for explanations for our inadequate actions, I found that some people had written on some specific facets of it, the psychological or ethical, for example. However, most questions were unaddressed. No one had examined the problem as open ended letting answers fall where they may. About ten years ago it became clear to me that if we are to effectively resolve the critical problems we are now facing, we have to learn what is holding us back. I started to read, listen, think, and build a data base. Invisible Walls, edited to demonstrate the scope of the problem in an interesting way, is a compilation of what I learned. The book also suggests solutions, and provides a strategy for getting from here to there. The subject is an important one. Unless we see and overcome the barriers to rational, responsible behavior, the future of humanity does not look good. But there is hope-if we act, and we can. While the subject is serious, the book is filled with fascinating examples that teach us about ourselves and the society we live in. It even helps with many everyday experiences. I very much enjoyed researching and writing this book.
