Rating: Summary: Not just a kid's book. Review: I like these kinds of books because they pack in a whole lot of general information and have lots of good graphics. In contrast, many "adult" books are too wordy, too detailed, have lousy indexes and TOCs, way too few pictures, and describe the author's adventures more than the supposed subject. The main fault I found with this book is that some of the information seems out of order and some of the graphics could be improved. But hey, I checked this out of the library, and it was good enough to buy.
Rating: Summary: Second edition of a standard, popular title on dinosaurs Review: In comparing the second edition with the 1993 edition, I found updated information on Ankylosaurus, Argentinosarus, and Oviraptor. Otherwise, the book appears unchanged. Unfortunately, the index citation to Oviraptor was not changed in the new edition, so is incorrect.
Rating: Summary: The best-for kids and adults Review: Most kids are interested in dinosaurs. They fascinate them with their beauty and immense size. This book, Dougal Dixon's Dinosaurs, is the absolute best book ever published for children interested in dinosaurs. The book highlights the seven groups, famous paleontologists, and other important facts, such as dig sites and the history of fossil hunting. But, this book is not only for kids. It is so well written by Dougal Dixon and Peter Dodson that even adults will enjoy its wonderful content and learn a lot from it. It is a must for all children, and all adults who are still bitten by the "dinosaur bug". Five stars for Dixon and Dodson, two of the finest dinosaur and paleontology writers.
Rating: Summary: An Enjoyable Browse Review: My 6 year old son loves this book. Of course, we own more dinosaur books that you can shake a stick at, but this one stands out. The drawings are engaging and the text well-written.
