Rating: Summary: Cichlid Lore and More Review: Learn how fish hear, recognize each other, navigate around obstacles despite blindness, take care of their kids, and many other interesting facts. Reebs is a Biology professor but he saves the references for the back of the book. Give this one to your friends who don't understand why you need a 300-gallon tank in the living room...
Rating: Summary: Fish Behavior in the Aquarium and in the Wild Review: This attractive little book was written by Reebs (Univ. of Moncton, Canada) primarily for the benefit of aquarium owners and other fish fanciers. It is divided into three parts: the first explores sensory abilities; the second discusses cognitive abilities; and the third examines adaptive choices. The author's stated purpose is to bridge the gap between professional ethologists and the public. Reebs, through his superb writing ability and clever illustrations, has done an outstanding job. In so doing, he has produced a book that will be of considerable interest to students and professional biologists. Each chapter contains notes and references that provide an entree to the scientific literature. The end result is not only a good introduction but a competent overview of the entire field of fish behavior. General readers; lower-division undergraduates through professionals.
Rating: Summary: Great Book. Review: This book is a must have for anyone who is interested in fish behaviour.
