Summary: Not at all what I expected.
Review: As a fan of all things snakey, I must say that although this book has an intriguing look about it, as well as a nice rattlesnake poem in the preface, it is NOT a good book. This book is just full of ridiculous tall tales and redneck lore about rattlers, and so is nothing more than a repository for dumb stories and ignorant misconceptions of rattlesnakes, as opposed to being about the snakes themselves. I bought this book in the hopes that I would learn something about the snakes, or perhaps read some snake-related anecdotes that did not include the words, "then we killed it," but alas, I was quite disappointed.

So, if you like reading stories about people who know pretty much nothing at all about rattlesnakes, and yet speak as if they're experts as they pointlessly kill every one that they encounter, then by all means, get this book. Otherwise, stay far away from it.

Summary: Texas Rattler Lore
Review: I read this 'bout 20 years ago, and it was fascinating then, as it is now. Mr. Dobie brings to us the Texas legendry and lore surrounding the rattlesnake, both in humor and seriousness. Great book.
