Summary: Emerging Dinosaurs
Review: This book traces the emergence of reptiles on earth, and it fills a need for information about dinosaurs of the Triassic Period. The Triassic Period was characterized by the emergence of a variety of animals, many of them reptiles and dinosaurs. A few mammal species ate insects and plants, but they had a tough time making any inroads with the majority of habitats being populated by dinosaurs. The omnivorous Coelophysis was ferocious and agile. The Placerias were plant eaters, and the Eudimorphodons, a flying dinosaur, was an insectivore. In the Triassic oceans lived a dolphin-like Ichthyosaur who ate the squid, shellfish and other ocean animals. The Tanystropheus dinosaur had an enormously long neck (up to 12 feet long) that allowed it to live on land and still eat their favorite food, fish.

With this variety of life, it is easy to see how adaptations developed to accommodate the environment and available food supply of the time.

This book will be a welcomed addition to school libraries. It will provide many hours of entertainment and information for our young readers who favor books about dinosaurs.
