Review: This book really stands out, more than anything else in the last 50 years. Using doubly labelled water is complex and can be confusing, but Speakman does a great job in all three sections of his book. First, he presents the general introdution to animal energetics, then he talks about the theroy of doublly labelled water, and finally he presents useful information about the practice of both using and writing about doubly labeled water in scientific papers. These book is essential reading for graduate students and professors looking for a guide in getting started with doubly labelled water.
