Summary: Excellent Pregnancy Guide
Review: I read this book cover to cover for both my first pregnancy and again 4 years later for my second pregnancy. I thought it was very informative. I especially liked the beginning of each week when it talked about the stages of development the baby was in.

Summary: Provides the reader with the most current information
Review: Now in its significantly revised, expanded, and updated fifth edition, Your Pregnancy Week By Week is the expert collaboration of OB/GYN certified physician Galde B. Curtis and professional writer Judith Schuler. This impressively organized and presented, 469-page, pregnancy and childbirth reference provides the reader with the most current information concerning nutrition during pregnancy; medical tests expectant mothers may need; detailed descriptions of a baby's growth and average experiences to be expected week by week; what to do if you are overdue, and so much more. A superb and highly recommended resource for all mothers-to-be, Your Pregnancy Week By Week is comprehensive and"reader friendly".

Summary: Realistic Book
Review: I bought 3 - 4 books while I was pregnant and found this one to be the most realistic as far as what was happening to my body and the baby and what could happen. I would recommend this book as the 'new' What to Expect When You are Expecting.

Summary: A good read...AFTER the first trimester...
Review: This was the first pregnancy book that I purchased, and it scared me to death. It starts off with all the things I should have done before I got pregnant--it's a little late for that now, and makes me nervous that there are things I didn't do. Then, the book spends a lot of time covering miscarriage and ectopic pregnancies early on. I just found out I was pregnant, and truthfully, this book scared me to death.

Having said that, I didn't throw it away, and want my husband to let me look at it again after first tri is over (he has hidden it in the meantime). I think it does have some good information, but for the newly pregnant for the first time, the beginning of the book scared me too much.

Summary: Great week-by-week drawings of the baby
Review: I like the drawings of what the baby looks like at each week. Otherwise, the information is similar to what you'd find in other pregnancy books. The "tips for Dad" are silly - they seem to assume that men are completely clueless - but my husband and I get a good laugh out of them.

Summary: GREAT BOOK
Review: I thought this book was very informative. It had the good, bad and ugly! I found it to be much better than the What to Expect when your Expecting book. It has many different details on your pregnancy and it has pictures of the size of the baby in the early stages when new moms are so excited to know what is going on. I think this book focused more on the positive aspects of pregngncy, but gave good information on the negative or possible negatives. Overall I loved it and just recomemded it to a friend...She however got the NEW 5th edition that is out and it seems to be a bit thicker than this 4th edition. Please at least try it I think it is worth every dime!

Summary: FANTASTIC!!!
Review: First, buy EVERY book Glade Curtis has written in regards to pregnancy and babies. Awesome! This book was my bible during pregnancy, and even my OB wrote the title down to start passing it along to other patients. Talk about covering everything, this book was "too much information" but in the best possible way. Things you wouldn't even think about are in here. Foods to eat, relaxation tips, pointers, tips for dad (one of my favorites), etc. -- this book went everywhere with me. There's even a section for you to take notes, log your weight gain, and so on -- I took it to every doctor visit. This book is a MUST for any pregnant woman, I don't care what your past experiences have been with pregnancy, good or bad, you need this book and you will LOVE this book. Go Dr. Curtis! (Make sure you get "Bouncing Back After Pregnancy," too, and "Your Baby's First Year, Week by Week.")

Summary: Please Avoid This Book. Too Much Focus On The Negative.
Review: After five pages of miscarriage in week 8, week 11 pleasantly reminds you "If a miscarriage occurs after this point, it may be possible to tell if it was male or female." GREAT.
I understand that things go wrong--but most of the time they don't. Though I believe that information on what could go wrong has it's place (like it's own section maybe) I don't think it warrants devoting a major percentage of the book on what horrible things could potentially harm your baby, downplaying the positive aspects of your pregnancy.

Summary: There are better pregnancy guides out there!
Review: I have read a number of books about pregnancy and I found this one to be poorly organized, sadly lacking in certain types of information, and as other reviewers have pointed out, progressively alarmist as the book goes on. What to Expect When You're Expecting is a far better book, covering every topic imaginable, presented in an easily accessible format. I did like the way the book describes, in considerable detail, the continuing development of the fetus, but overall I did not appreciate the seemingly underlying assumption that problems and complications are always lurking around the corner. What to Expect When You're Expecting has a much more assuring tone.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I loved this book so much. It was so much fun to see the weekly pictures and see how my little one was growing every week. I even liked reading about the "scary stuff". It made me more aware of things that could go wrong, and helped me recognize and deal with my Gestational Diabetes. I think it's much better to know what's going on than to just hope that everything is OK.
The only little gripe I had was that the "Dad Tips" were kind of silly and out of date. Plus they didn't include the dads in the process much either.
Otherwise I'd highly reccommend this book.
