Rating: Summary: This book works Review: At seven weeks our baby was breastfeeding irregularly, never slept for more that three hours at a time and was quite fussy. After implementing a scheduled feeding program we now have a baby that from nine weeks of age sleeps through the night (7-8 hours), breastfeeds every 3-4 hours, and smiles and "talks" more than he cries. Of course we are sensitive to exceptions to his scheduled feedings, watching his cues to see if he needs to be fed. But he is also now feeding in a way that works with our schedule and that allows us to be better, more rested, parents. I'm not sure about those who call this approach "un-Christian." Sounds like people have other issues--but this book makes common sense and it works.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: ...With the help of this book I always know when my child is hungry or sleepy. Other parents not following this book have a hard time raising their children. They come to me and ask why my child is so good when their children always cry. Their children still do not sleep through the night at 1 year.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't follow Jesus' loving example Review: Ezzo's publisher no longer backs him because of his lack of credibility and bad advice. The guy has no sort of medical background whatsoever so why should you trust him? If you are looking for ways to raise your child like Jesus intended, read The Complete Guide to Christian Childcare and Parenting by Dr. Sears.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful guide for loving parents Review: As a first time mother, I read many guides in preparation for my baby's arrival. Upon recommendation from many other parents, (several from our chuch) I purchased Baby Wise as another resource. I found this book to be very helpful. It helps parents vear from the beaten path of creating a child without any since of independence. My son has thrived from day one and has been in the 90 percentile on the growth charts from two weeks. He is still nursing well and always sleeps through the night since 12 weeks. We always get comments about what a wonderful baby he is, he is always happy, and is full of smiles everyday. At nine months old, I am thankful I read Baby Wise and continue to recommend it to loving parents who want to give their children the best start. A positive way to have the happiest, healthiest baby of all. The negitive reviews of this book are generally comments of parents who didn't read the book fully for content. Unfortunatly many parents only believe in on demand feeding schedules which make it easier to hush a baby with a bottle at every cry, instead of finding out what is really bothering the baby, such as lack of attention, over stimulation, or other general needs of the little one.
Rating: Summary: BEWARE! Review: Awful!! Scary that people could use this as a guide with their children. Totally un-Christian in any sense of the word.
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT PARENTING GUIDE Review: Gary Ezzo shares the most practical advice on how to train babies for toddlerhood in a way that actually prepares them and you, the parent, for life. I have applied most of what he has shared in the Babywise and Babywise II books with my 10-month old twins, and am very pleased to say it works. One can't get legalistic - and Gary teaches that - but when put into practice you, the parent, are in control and your baby is secure. A brilliant book - not a one off read, you need to own one because it's a lifestyle not just a good idea!!
Rating: Summary: Made me a believer! Review: I can understand negative reviews from people who maybe didn't follow the principles in the book, but if you really try it and don't take it as the bible of child rearing, I think this book is excellent. We followed all the principles in this book and the first one and we had a baby who slept through the night by 5 weeks (and is still sleeping very well) and a baby who is very happy. I know this just didn't happen, I don't just have an "easy baby" (is there really such a thing??) It took training and love and that's what this book helps guide you to do.
Rating: Summary: Babywise & Happy Review: I am a breastfeeding mom with a six month old son. I was told about babywise from a next door neighbor with twins who already had two other children in their teens. She highly recommended I read this book when I came home from the hospital. Boy am I glad I did. My son is a wonderful and happy baby. Very independent and has slept through the night since the third week. I decided to use a breastpump so that I was able to see how much my son was eating and so other family members could feed him also or have my husband feed in the middle of the night while I slept. Along with this and the book - I have enhanced the wonderful son I have. He is always happy and he goes to bed on cue and I know when something is wrong because of his schedule. I highly recommend this book for new mothers.
Rating: Summary: Seeing is believing Review: Being a new mother, an information junkie, and wanting what is best for my baby, I read a lot of information, including On Becoming Babywise. I have read the book inside and out. We applied the principles, matched them with our good judgment and common sense, and our baby IS THRIVING. The reviews I read on this book are completely contrary to our experience, as well as the experience of two other families we know who also applied the principles of the book. At 8 weeks, our baby is in the 90th percentile for growth, sleeps through the night, and has the good-natured and content temperament that is predicted in the book. We are happy to have given her a good start by setting her metabolism (and yes we feed her at 2 hours if she is showing us SIGNS FOR BEING HUNGRY - also outlined in the book) and she has acquired excellent sleep skills. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Misinformation Review: Ezzo is pastor with no medical experience who wrote books touting his theories on raising children, which included rigorous guidelines about Parent Directed Feeding of infants. Now, Gary Ezzo's system and his books (including the popular "On Becoming Babywise") which were once the materials of choice for church-based parenting classes across the country, are being condemned by the medical community and other parenting experts for their dangerous practices. They have led to dehydration and poor weight gain. His proposed strict schedules go against the feeding recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and interfere with the natural milk production of lactating women.
