Summary: Inadequate Information
Review: As a professional athlete I have nothing but kudos for this timely book. How refreshing to have a comprehensive resource on exercise and pregnancy. How reassuring that Fit to Deliver brings together the expertise and various strengths of a physician, personal trainer and physical therapist! Based upon the three principles of "prevention," "preparation," and "restoration," this easy to read guide on exercise during pregnancy explores how to reduce pregnancy symptoms through exercise, how to strengthen the muscles needed in labor and how exercise will ease recovery postpartum. I particularly liked the "Tips from the Team" throughout the book that offer little treasures of information for exercising moms, including advice on how to prevent back pain and how to stretch effectively. Variety is also found in the aerobic and strength training routines, in which alternatives for different trimesters and numerous exercises are illustrated to avoid boredom. The last chapter puts it all together by outlining programs for each trimester and for beginner, intermediate and advanced moms-to-be. Overall, the combined voices of the three authors are authoritative and knowledgeable. Fit to Deliver expels any old myths and misconceptions the reader may have had on exercise and pregnancy and offers up-to-date guidelines for a safe and effective workout.
I highly recommend it for all Mom's to Be.

Summary: it's about time
Review: Finally there is a practical book that focuses strictly on exercise and pregnancy. Too bad it didn't come about sooner! As a mother of a two year old and a four month old I understand the desire and importance of staying fit, not only before pregnancy but, during and after pregnancy as well. I also know the difficulties of finding time and energy to keep in shape. This book gives you practical and safe exercises to do in your own home throughout each stage of your pregnancy. When done right along with a proper diet this program should help you feel good and stay healthy. We're planning on having another baby down the road and I am looking forward to using this book as a guideline to be fit to deliver again.

Summary: Inadequate Information
Review: I am a competitive athlete as well as a physician, going through my first pregnancy. I've been devouring a good number of textbooks relating to maternal fitness, and this one is the weakest I've read yet.

The text is poorly written and uninspiring, with typographical errors liberally mixed throughout. The exercises shown are standard strength training exercises, and very little insight is offered as to the benefits one might receive by doing them.

For the beginner or untrained athlete, this book might offer some useful information, but the reviews here led me to believe that a trained athlete might find this book useful. These reviews were incorrect.

Summary: fit to deliver
Review: I am also a professional athlete who spent 6 years full time on the WTA tour. I have read the book, and recognize many of the exercise routines as ones that helped me reach the top. Now as a Tennis Coach and fitness trainer I was fortunate enough to attend a Fit to Deliver training course and was more than pleasantly surprised at the level of expertise and common sense I found in both the Physical Therapist and Physician who authored it. The book is written to be a safe guide for Moms-To-Be of all levels, no matter where they are along in their pregnancy. If you want potentially dangerous fitness moves or want to try and overtrain then look for the FLASH workouts. I have read it, I have done it and I have personally spoken to the authors. They know what they are talking about. If you want a safe, proven, effective pre-natal fitness program that will carry you safely through your pregnancy and into post partum then check out Fit to Deliver!

Summary: Excellent resource for health and fitness professionals
Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource for not only pregnant women but also for the healthy and fitness professionals who care for them during this special time. As the owner of "Healthy Moms," a prenatal and postpartum fitness instructor training organization in the US, I have designated "Fit to Deliver" as required reading for our perinatal fitness instructor certification course.

Summary: Save money and stick to Fit Pregnancy Magazine!
Review: I was highly dissappointed with this book. I am now into my second pregnancy and thought that I needed a safe excercise routine with new and exciting ideas. This book did not deliver. I learned better routines and nutritional information by reading Fit Pregnancy magazine. This book was quite overpriced for what it was -- a flimsy paperback that offered nothing new as far as excercise and diet.

Summary: The best book out on Fitness and Pregnancy
Review: It is brilliant and I've never seen anything like it on the bookshelves. I thought the advice in the book (both the very general and the specific) was helpful. It's something that every pregnant woman with an interest in fitness should have in their library.
