Rating: Summary: understanding life with a Bipolar child Review: Thank you so much for such an interesting book. I was watching late night television and came upon the women who wrote the book IF YOUR CHILD IS BIPOLAR and was fasinated because my daughters best friend had been diagnosed as Bipolar. As someone looking in from the outside, I didn't understand the disorder nor could I ever have imagined what the parents go through everyday. It was a very honest, personal book with a vast amount of information for not only families of someone with Bipolar disorder but also for the friends of the families, as it allows us to understand and give the support and understanding that the parents and child so deserve.
Rating: Summary: Much more than your standard, boring medical guide. Review: Thank you so much for this incredible book! It is amazing to me that 2 ordinary women gave so much of themselves in writing such an extrodinary book from the perspective of people such as myself, who have lived with this disorder in their lives. They share information and life lessons learned through their own trials and tribulations. Their dedication in getting factual information out there that people can actually understand, should be commended! Not only is this book an incredible information resource guide for families of someone with Bipolar disorder, but it is also a necessary book for our society in general. IF YOUR CHILD IS BIPOLAR allows the rest of the world to understand what parents of children with this disorder go through everyday. It gave me the answers to many questions that had gone unanswered...BRAVO.
Rating: Summary: recommended to parents of Bipolar kids Review: This book is a wonderful guide for parents of a Bipolar child. The personal stories show families that they are not alone and give evidence that their child may be struggling with a mental illness. The helpful and realistic suggestions can make life much less stressful for the Bipolar child and everyone else in the family. I highly recommend it to our patients' parents and any parent of a Bipolar child.
Rating: Summary: Support Group in Print Review: This book is so helpful in reminding me that I am NOT alone in this !! It is not written from a medical standpoint such as Papols' work, but is written by a PARENT for other PARENTS. Includes examples of behavior that you find with bipolar kids and some of the examples are from the kid's viewpoint. Fascinating ! One of the most important things I gained from a practical standpoint is that out insurance company should be viewing my son's bipolar diagnosis as a MEDICAL condition not a MENTAL HEALTH condition. This would increase our benefits about 10-fold. Highly recommend this book !!
Rating: Summary: Incredibly supportive and helpful Review: This book made me feel so much more in control. It made me feel better emotionally and gave me suggestions on things to try that really worked. I have lots of books that give technical details about the disorder and the medications that are used to treat it, but this book helped me deal with the everyday types of situations I face as the parent of a Bipolar child. I think every parent with a child who is or might be Bipolar should get this book!
Rating: Summary: neuropsychologist recommended Review: This is an excellent book that is more comprehensive and parent-centered than other literature. I recommend it to psychiatrists so they can let their patients know about it. -Dr. Diane Salerno, neuropsychologist and parent of a Bipolar child
Rating: Summary: Bi-polar adult Review: This is an excellent resource for understanding a bi-polar child. The book does an wonderful job in describing the experience of being a bi-polar child. As a bi-polar adult, it described in detail what my experience was growing up. The book gives parents an insight as to what to expect and how to deal with bi-polar children. Since the authors have bi-polar children, there is lots of advise on therapy and medication. It also gives the reader hope for their child.
