Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: I am a fan of the writings of Joseph Chilton Pearce. I had hoped that reading "Magical Parent - Magical Child" would be a valuable learning experience. After reading 36 pages, I decided that I would not spend any more time reading this, very disappointing. I do not doubt that the author has good intentions in writing the book. But I think he attempts to cram too many disconnected ideas into the book. Part of each page of text - in margin - is a quote from one of the LCP books. This makes the book very awkward to read. Sensory overload. Too bad, because I think JCP ideas are very powerful. I would not recommend it to anyone to read.

Rating: Summary: This is the parenting book YOU need! (we ALL need) Review: This book is magical! It very succinctly and lovingly explains years of research on child development, the potential of the human brain, and how to live our lives more authentically through play. As a parent, it was inspiring to read about how I can achieve a state of play in my parenting (and in my life as a whole). I have alraady seen such a change in myself and my children as a result of putting into practice the principles set forth in the last chapters of the book. Rather than focusing our the children, it challenges us to work on ourselves, to understand and change our own enculturated attitudes and habitual ways of responding to our children and others, in order to achieve a new way of relating to our children and the world. It provides us an exciting opportunity to use parenting as a journey of self-discovery, and the result: happy, healhy, creative, playful relationships with our children and others! Buy this book for yourself and anybody you know who cares about the well-being of children (and those who would enjoy an opportunity for personal growth as well). If your kids are in school buy it for their TEACHER! They really do need to understand this stuff! Scattered with quotes from many authors, athletes, coaches, researchers, scholars, etc. this book provides a jumping point for even further exploration and playful learning adventures. Summarizing the many EXCELLENT works of Joseph C. Pearce, this book is a MUST have/MUST read. ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: A Playful and Stimulating Experience Review: This book should be required reading for anyone who takes up space on this planet we call earth. Being able to provide an Optimum Learning Relationship should be the goal of all adults that are in communion with the children of the world by their very presence or intent. We have for too long denegrated children and those that work with them. Children are the future and they deserve the best. This book shows how the children can best be served and provides some hope for a better future for all living on the earth.
Rating: Summary: Read this book, Mom and Dad Review: This is a book that every discerning parent (or teacher, coach or counselor) who wants his or her child to develop beyond the usual culturally imposed limits. It is not the easiest book on parenting you'll encounter and it doesn't have simple, quick fix recipies. But, if you are willing to put yourself into it and be open, you and your child both will find joy in the process of growing and learning.
