Summary: Very informative!
Review: This is without question the best pregnancy book I have read! I am currently pregnant for the first time and have procured many, many books in order to educate myself as much as possible. This book is the only that I have that gives enough technical information to satisfy my curiosity and to facilitate my understanding of the issues. With most other pregnancy books, I feel "spoken down to." This book, by contrast, is written at an appropriate level. The author recognizes that the reader is an adult and treats him or her as such, which is very refreshing!
Moreover, this book addresses an amazingly complete range of issues regarding pregnancy. Never once did I think of something about which I wished to read, look it up in the index, and fail to find pertinent information about the subject.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who would like thorough and technical, yet understandable, answers to almost any question imaginable about pregnancy!

Summary: Answers Every Question
Review: Are you one of those pregnant women who feel too silly to call your dr's office with "trivial" questions? Fear no more! A friend gave me a BOX of pregnancy books and this is the only one on my bedside table. I found most of my pg questions geared toward the specifics: Can I take allergy medicine? If so, which ones? There is a whole chapter in the book dedicated to OTC medications. Are mammograms safe in pregnancy? Check out the "Physical Changes" chapter. While most books cover general ideas, Dr. Thurston's book answers those and many more.
In my second pregancy, I'm still looking up info!

Summary: Must have Pregnancy Book!!
Review: I have been an Obstetrics and Gynecology RN for nearly 20 years and I promise you this is the most comprehensive, entertaining (and I mean funny) authoritative book for the expecting mother out there! Many women need much more complete and direct answers than they can find in the other pregnancy books out there and Dr. Thurston gives them straight answers.
Any woman who wants to save herself time and worry MUST have this book on her nightstand while contemplating pregnancy, during her pregnancy and in the post partum period. JUST TRY IT..I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LIKE IT BETTER THAN THE BOOK THAT I KNOW YOU ALREADY HAVE!! Evelyn Scott RN (NOTE: Read the reviews for the previous editions!!)

Summary: Doctor tells it like it is without sugar-coating it
Review: I have the traditional expecting books and got this one with the second pregnancy. It answered many questions that I had forgotten or didn't learn during the first pregnancy. The entire book is a question and answer book sorted by categories. Each question and answer is numbered and referenced in the index.

On the third pregnancy, I knew enough not to get out any books until about the 15th week. There were a couple of things I needed to check and I went right for Thurston's book though I have some other good ones.

Get answers on what medicines are OK to take (it's always good to check with your doctor because better medicine may be approved for pregnant women by now), why things are happening, how to handle annoyances, and more. There's a great fold-out chart that shows every few weeks of pregnancy, what to expect, how you're feeling, etc.

I understand why one of the reviewers indicated that the attitude was "flippant," however, Dr. Thurston is just telling it straight. Some of us are tired of sugary advice that doesn't get right to the point.

I admit that he made my second delivery better and easier than the first. Prior to that, he helped me through a miscarriage. Currently, I'm using a different doctor thanks to insurance. The new one is terrific, too... something about Thurston and the delivery he did, made me feel like I would always be well taken care of.

Summary: A Pregnancy Book that will keep you sane
Review: I just had my first child, and going through my first pregnancy, I bought every book about pregnancy that was out there. Dr. Thurston is my OB-GYN, which is how I found out about this book. It is BY FAR the book that I referred to the most. It was very comforting to be able to look up information that is supported by medical fact, as opposed to the author's opinion. It is easy to find whatever topic you may be concerned about, and this book covers just about everything! Dr. Thurston addresses the questions with humor, making it a fun read. I highly recommend this book to all pregnant women! And I'm giving it as gifts to all of my pregnant friends.

Summary: Finally! Straight Shooting Answers to your Questions!
Review: I purchased the What to Expect book with my first pregnancy and had to stop reading it due to its doom and gloom attitude (Don't eat that one candy bar or your child will be nutritionally doomed!). During my second pregnancy, Dr. Thurston's book was in my OB's office when I went for my first visit and I found it to be not only informational but pretty straight shooting with the facts. This book is packed with loads of information on a variety of subjects and talks about them with rational, straight forward language. Pregnancy can be a scary thing, but I think it's important to have a factual resource that tells it like it is without scaring you half to death.

Summary: answered ALL my questions
Review: I referred to this book nearly every day of my first pregnancy. It seemed to have the answer to every question I could think of. I especially appreciated the chapters on prescription and OTC medicines. I also often referred to the pull-out week by week calendar. I am purchasing this book for the second time. I gave it to a friend during her pregnancy who passed it on to another.

Summary: Best Pregnancy Book
Review: I used Dr. Thurston's book with my first pregnancy last year and it was a Godsend!! My daughter is 15 months old now and we're thinking about another. I owned several pregnancy books including What to Expect and I PROMISE YOU that Dr. Thurston's book is better in almost every respect!I am looking forward to seeing this new edition which my husband is getting me for my next go round! I know I'll get straight answers and I'll laugh my way through much of the book! GET IT! RM

Summary: The Week-by-Week Pregnancy Book is much better.
Review: The index is terrible; the author is flippant. Save your money and buy something else.
