Summary: A definite must have!
Review: An absolute delight to read. Dr. Shoshanna's words are like a breath of fresh air! Her book has left me less stressed, more happy and ready for love. Thanks!

Summary: If you want to understand falling in love
Review: Shoshanna's book really puts into perspective this difficult process called falling in love. It is not a "how-to" book, and you do not get advice on the best places to meet the opposite sex or anything silly like that. It is really about learning to be patient, to appreciate what comes to you in whatever guise it may come, and in having faith in what she calls "the universe" (and what others may call God) to bring to you the things you need when you need them. Quite a hard lesson! No book can truely fulfill such a tall order -- only time and experience can do that -- but this is a good place to start.

Summary: breathe
Review: The most important love relationship one can have is the relationship with the source of the questions within. From there, all love grows. Brenda Shoshanna has written an engaging, thoughtful book. In it, she illustrates the ways in which we thwart our opportunities to know this inner source, and the ways in which we can let go of the desire and proclivity to do so. In letting go, beauty and love become self-evident - waking from a dream. Shoshanna's book is brilliant not only in demystifying Zen practice, but in applying it in real terms to relationships of all kinds. This is not a book to be read in one shot on a transatlantic flight. It is more a book to be digested thoroughly, chapter by chapter, in one's own time. Highly recommend, highly, highly.

Summary: A definite must have!
Review: This is a well-intended book that does not deliver on the promise that we will fall in love with Zen, self, or others by reading it. We are never given a clear and inspiring definition of what it means to be a loving being. Instead, our attention is drawn to what doesn't work, and we are bombarded with the psychological problems and miseries encountered in life. Shoshanna provides real life stories of how people solve their problems through the study and application of Zen, but the endings are too neat and predictable. Eventually, this approach bores the reader and begins to feel like a simplistic and heavy handed way to get buy in.

Shoshanna's path requires knowledge of Rinzai and Soto Zen concepts, dedication to Zen practices, and participation in group Zen experiences to acquire insights and skills. While the ideas, practices, and terminologies are expertly described in great detail, a big picture, strategic overview and purpose would have also been appreciated. Why would we really want to do all these things and how are they supposed to tie together?
