Rating: Summary: Up to Date on Microprocessors Review: I thought I read a review here yesterday that criticized the book for just changing the copyright and not adding anything new, particularly on microprocessor. The second edition I'm looking at has very current material on microprocessors: Basic Stamp, MindStorms RCX and others. This is a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Robot Builder's Bonanza Review: I've had this book for a few months now, and I just can't seem to put it down! Its helped me throughout all of my projects.I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in robotics. It is by far the best source for information about robotics.

Rating: Summary: Simply The Best Beginners Book on Robotics..... Review: If your one of those who thought that the idea of building your own robot was just too daunting a task, there is good news. Gordon McComb has recreated what has long been one of the most popular books for the do-it your-selfer robotics enthusiast. The Robot Builder's Bonanza brings back some tried and true building concepts along with a fresh update of new technology. This is all packaged in a progressive step-by-step approach to helping the reader build upon previous lessons as he follows along with the projects. McComb is no amateur at helping turn the techno arcane babble of science into easy to understand concepts that can be grasped by the average person. He is also the notable author of Gadgeteer's Goldmine, (Tab/McGraw-Hill) and Lasers, Ray Guns, and Light Cannons, (Tab/McGraw-Hill), both still in publication. You won't be making any R2D2s here. What you will find is a building blocks approach to constructing your own basic metal or plastic pal. Successive chapters will show you about robot building fundamentals using commonly available materials. Locomotion engineering on how to use motors, wheels and gears. Constructing robotic arms and hands. Sensor design on how to detect objects and navigate. Sound capabilities that will give your robot a voice or teach it to obey your commands. Remote control of your robot using wired and wireless technology. Programing micro devices for controlling your robot. This and much more is detailed in a no noncense clearly understood writing style. The book is profusely illustrated and diagrammed to help the reader with every project and example. I found the chapters on the Basic Stamp by Parallax,Inc., BasicX, and OOPic micro controllers to be worth the price of the book alone. Gordon quickly points out the features and benefits of all these devices in comparison and loads up a dash of practical application with each. This second edition will certainly act as an inspirational guide to all hobbyists whether your considering the next robot ready for combat, or the next best fire fighting bot. The Robot Builder's Bonanza consists of 720 pages including a complete indexed resource guide that I can highly recommend to anyone who is even the least bit curious about the subject.
Rating: Summary: Good Book, not without its errors... Review: It was a grat book, but with many errors, spelling wwas incorect mainly. A tad out dated, but I liked it. Easy for a beginner, and if You can't do theses things, try the book Practical Electronics for Inventors. I found it useful, and it makes it so a 12 year old could make a robot, if he/she tryed.
Rating: Summary: Caution! Not for everybody! Review: Probably, the book is briliant, I do not know. I can not drill metal, I can not disassemble joysticks and printers. I can not make a metal frame with several holes, each 0.3" in diameter. The book is not for everybody. Mainly it relates to non-standard parts, self-made constructions etc. If you are shopping for just a Lego-Idea-Book, do not buy this one, it's for "almost-engineers"
Rating: Summary: This Book is Totally AWESOME Review: This book gave me some skills that I cuold use when I grow up I know how to do tonnes of cool stuff with robotics when he tells you something complicated he always simplifies it by giving the PERFECT example no matter how complicated it is. If you are a beginner like I WAS I suggest this book.
Rating: Summary: good book for building robots Review: This book has been instrumental in the development of my first robotics project. Being a mechanical enginnering student I had an idea for the shape and function of my robot but no clue how I was going work out the electronics. Each chapter of this book has answered questions and provided a clearer picture of how my project would be controlled. Great examples, great pictures and diagrams, great book...

Rating: Summary: Great source of information!! Review: This book is a great resource because there is information about all areas of robotics and it's all in one place. I like this book a lot because it isn't information that is readily available on the internet (unlike the Sourcebook). The robot projects are a lot of fun and they are original. This is a classic, "must have" for the serious robot builder!!
