Summary: CULTURAL REVELANT TEACHING OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS
Review: I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT MAJORING IN EDUCATION AND I READ "DREAMKEEPERS" FOR A CLASS. THE BOOK "DREAMKEEPERS" IS VERY EASY TO READ AND INTERESTING. THE BOOK GIVES METHODS AND EXAMPLES ON HOW TO COPE WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS. I BELIEVE THAT "DREAMKEEPERS" ALLOWS A READER TO EXPLORE AND REALIZE THE TRUE OVERVIEW OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS. MANY STUDENTS ARE JUDGED BASED ON RACE, BUT THAT'S NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. RACE DOESN'T AFFECT THE LEARNING CAPACITY OF AN INDIVIDUAL, IT'S THE INDIVIDUAL HIMSELF/HERSELF. THIS BOOK IS REALLY HELPFUL FOR ALL TEACHERS, AND WOULD BE A STEPPING STONE FOR THE OBSTACLES TEACHERS MAY ENCOUNTER. THE AUTHOR, GLORIA-LADSON BILLINGS, IS A VERY BRIGHT AND CONSIDERABLE PERSON. SHE USE EXAMPLES IN THE BOOK ON HOW TO DEAL WITH STUDENTS USING CULTURAL REVELANT TEACHING. THE BOOK IS A GOOD OVERVIEW OF HOW TO PERCEIVE A STUDENT'S ACTIONS AND BEHAVIORS. "DREAMKEEPERS" IS A BOOK WITH DETAILS AND EXPERIENCE FROM OTHER TEACHERS PERSPECTIVE. TEACHING SHOULD BE INTERESTING AND ENJOYABLE. THE BOOK GIVES DIFFERENT METHODS AND TECHNIQUES ON HOW TO TEACH IN A CULTURAL REVELANT SOCIETY. "DREAMKEEPERS" IS VERY USEFUL AND MAINLY DEPICTS HOW TEACHING IS A VERY IMPORTANT CAREER IN LIFE. TEACHING SHOULD BE RESOURCEFUL AND MEANINGFUL. "DREAMKEEPERS" HELPED ME REALIZE THAT THERE SHOULDN'T BE SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR STUDENTS BECAUSE OF RACE,GENDER, OR SOCIAL STATUS. EDUCATION IS FOR EVERYONE AND SHOULD BE EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED.

Summary: Issues stated in book sheds light on diversity in schools
Review: I am a college student majoring in education and I read this book for a class. This books talks about different methods teachers use both black and white when teaching African-American children. In the beginning I did not understand the author's approach, but toward the end of the book I understood the issues she was making. (Ida)

Summary: African American Children was the subject of her book
Review: I am a college student majoring in education and I was reading this book for a class. I enjoyed reading this book for enjoyment purposes only. Dr. Ladson-Billings talked about her subject indeed. But I have to disagree with her when she talks about teaching African American children in a different way. First of all it would make them think that they (we) are always supposed to be treated in a "different" manner and secondly where would this exist? Utopia!! If we stop separating children, then maybe our problems will get solved. But, trying to teach one group this way and another group another way only creates problems for students as well as teachers. Furthermore, where will we find this PERFECT teacher? We are becoming a melting pot and therefore strategies for teaching one set of people one way will soon become obsolete.

Summary: The Book For All Teachers
Review: I am a college student majoring in education, and I had to read this book for my Education class. This book provides exemplars of effective teaching for African American students. I agree with the statement that teachers must not ignore color. The book examined the prospects for improving the academic performance, and the school experiences of African American children. We must make a serious effort toward preparing teachers to teach in a culturally, revelant manner. Teachers must evaluate their teaching and return quality, value, and integrity to their classroom. I think every beginning teacher(of all races), should read this book. The book not only stated facts, but gave examples to support the facts. This book was enjoyable, and I definitely would read it again.

Summary: This is an unbelievable book that all teachers should read.
Review: I am a sophomore at Macon State College. I have read The Dreamkeepers as an assignment for my Education 2000 class. This is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. It discusses in detail how teachers respond differently to their students. I love the fact that the author interviews and observes real teachers in diffent situations. I believe that this book will be a helpful tool for new and veteran teachers. The book has helped me in terms, that now I understand that in order for me to be a successful teacher, I must first produce successful students.

Summary: Great book
Review: I am an education major that chose to read this book as part of my class assignment. In Dreamkeepers I feel the author does a great job of addressing culturally relevant teaching for African Americans which she points out has never been done in book or manual format. I enjoyed the book because it addressed the issue in such a manner that any minority group in the U.S. could relate to. I know that some may not enjoy or understand this book or the author view point but she addresses a very critical issue in the African American community. My hat goes off to Ms. Billings.

Summary: Dreamkeepers
Review: I found the book to be quite interesting. I can certainly agree with some of the information in the book. However, I found the writer to be one sided on many of the issues. I know that everyone has their cultural differences but I feel that everyone can learn. I feel that it is so important for a teacher to bring honesty, sencerity and a desire to teach to the table when she enter the classroom. However, we all know that does not happen.

Summary: Purpose: Teachers are needed in multi cultural schools.
Review: I found this book to be easy to read. It was basis in that it didn't display the school districts sides and the sides of middle class European teachers. I find this book helpful for studing techers such as myself because it gives stories of real teachers that have been successful in working with children with different backgrounds. It also can be used to help teachers that are having problems working in their multi-cultural classroom. I disagree with the author labeling students by race because children should be judge my who they are when it comes to what educational background that they need. I also wish the author described the home life of students and teachers more. Overall, the book was a good book that I reccommend others to read.
