I have bought the book "Oracle - OCP Developer PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide (Exam 1ZO-101). It's a great book. Only one defect! Using the CD of BeachFromQuizzer I account for an error : in all the subcategories except for 01 Overview of PL/SQL and 3 Practise Test the button EXPLAIN is not enable.
In phase of Study session this button is useful and important...
Sometimes the cd shows wrong answer too.
I found a lot of tricks as regard as the data dictionary! This is a book also to learn a methods to programming following a good designed! That's all!

Summary: Great preparation for the 1Z0-101 OCP exam
Review: For me this book worked for the OCP exam (53/57 questions correct in 32 minutes). With this book it took me 1 week to prepare for this exam (weekday evenings and most of the weekend). If you want to do the PL/SQL program units exam this book is definitely the book to go for. I did not find any errors in this book. In the test questions from ORACLE I found no questions that was not explained in the book in a very understandable form. Beeing a not native speaker I can not really comment on the style of writing but I found it very readable. This book mentions one very import thing about the exam: read the questions first and than read the source code. I found that sometimes you actually do not need the (lengthy) source code in order to answer the questions.

Summary: Excellent Preparation for the Exam
Review: I found that reading and practicing with this guide is an excellent preparation for exam 1Z0-101. The questions in the practice exams in the back of the book are very similar to those questions on the exam except that they are a little bit more difficult than those on the exam.

Summary: Great Guide to Study From
Review: I read this book through and then using the CD, took the adaptive exams 4 times. I then re-reviewed the items I was weak in. I took all 3 practice exams and got 5 or 6 wrong on each. I studied the topics I consistently missed on each exam again. I took the test and got 56/57. This book really helps with the theory behind all the topics - once you understand the theory, you can pass the test.

Summary: A very good preparation tool
Review: I studied in this book and passed the PL/SQL exam. Nearly everything you need to know is in this book. For only two questions out of 57 the answer was not in the book but for one of them the answer could be guessed. There is a chapter about Procedure Builder which is not in the test content checklist and I had no question about it. The practice questions are very good but there is a bug in the Quizzer found on the CD-ROM. Some questions are evaluated False, but the explanation says otherwise. When in doubt check the paper version which is always accurate.

Review: I used this book as one of my study guides for the new IZ0-147 "Oracle 9i: Program with PL/SQL" exam which I recently passed. This is an excellent book that covers many of the concepts found in the IZ0-147 exam. It, of course, does not cover everything needed for the IZ0-147 exam. Some things to look up elsewhere include LOBs, side effects (sql stmts calling functions are covered well in the book), and the 'call' command used in a trigger.

Summary: Recommended Study Guide and possible as Reference
Review: I used this book to prepare for pl/sql exam and scored 49/57. It is a good study guide. I have not had difficulty going through the book since I was exposed to the pl/sql language when I was studying for the exam (1z0-001, Introduction to oracle 8i sql and pl/sql). This was a huge benefit for me and I only spent about three weeks reading the book. I will say that this exam (1z0-101) is built on the first one (1z0-001). I am not sure if it is also built on the exam (1z0-007). You will need to know the basics of pl/sql to fully understand this book.
The author did a pretty job breaking down all the information you need for the exam. There was no questions on Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 was barely touched with one question on debugging.
I will advice you to read carefully the book and make sure you master the concept before you go take the exam. If you do it the exam comes easy for you. You will be shown a lot of codes during the exam. My strategy was this: in order to avoid wasting time reading the entire code, I read the question first. That allows to me spot quickly the objective and see quickly what is being asked without reading the long code. Stuff you need to be carefull of:
-Parameter declaration in Function and Procedure header
-Function without a Return
-Public and Private Constructs behavior
-Triggers behavior
-Function and Procedure call
This strategy allowed to complete my exam in less than one hour. Good Luck.
