Rating: Summary: "Practical magic... Especially for those who've hit a wall." Review: "Quite simply so impressive that I have contacted the author in order to become a teacher of his method. Clear and concise. Nearly foolproof for those of us with patience and perseverance. Roger takes us by the hand and leads us in to the success that we crave. Go for it."
Rating: Summary: David Glynn, artist, Glynns.com Review: "Worth listening to. I was glad to find out something right away in this book, - I was speaking too softly, which Roger Love warned me was the Most stressful thing you can do. A very concise book by co-author Donna Frazier who also co-wrote 2 books with Susan Forward.
Rating: Summary: Help For Spasmodic Dysphonia Review: About a year ago, after a severe cold, I started experiencing problems with my voice. I am a stockbroker who gives many investment seminars, and use my voice continually to make a living. Needless to say I was panicked.I was diagnosed with a condition called Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD) and was told there was no cure. The only treatment is to have injections of Botox (a poison) into my vocal cords several times a year. There is a school of thought that believes that SD is a mechanical problem and that it is indeed curable. I have had some relief with techniques that improve the way I speak. I purchased "Set Your Voice Free" in the hopes that I would find a little more information that would help me regain more of my voice. To my astonishment, in only two weeks of practicing his techniques I realized very significant improvement. At times I was actually speaking better than I ever have before SD. I strongly believe that, aside from improving almost anybody's singing or speaking voice, this book could also be a powerful tool for those who may need to rehabilitate a troubled voice. The book is easy to read, yet very informative. I was impressed with the information relating to the mechanics of voice. When you understand how things work, you have a better idea of where your problems may be. The accompanying disc is in my car constantly and I try to do the exercises daily. If you are looking for a way to quickly improve your vocal capabilities, order this book!
Rating: Summary: SOLID GOLD! Review: After years of wasting money on unsatisfying private instruction, I decided to give Roger Love a chance. Dr. Laura Schlessinger recommended this guy, so I knew that he MUST be good. "Set Your Voice Free" and its unique techniques have far exceeded my highest expectations. I have never sounded better, or been happier with my voice. Forget weekly private lessons-this book is the best investment that you will ever make. Having the CD that accompanies the book is like having Roger Love with you at your convenience. He tells you exactaly what you need to hear , when you need to hear it! You will never regret owning this book!
Rating: Summary: At last! Review: As an actor and would-be singer, I've read a lot of voice books and have taken a lot of lessons. This book is the FIRST thing that helped. It helped break bad breathing habits and made me understand the difference between making usable sound vs. just pushing breath through my throat. It has made speaking and singing a pleasure again. I put it to the test recently in a role with a 4-page monologue during allergy season. I had lost my voice from exhaustion (day job) and allergies, and the exercises brought it back. I didn't get into the vibrato or styling chapters, so I can't comment on that aspect. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Karaoke level book Review: At first I thought the book was interesting, but having afterwards read "Diagnostic and Correction of Vocal Faults" by James McKinney, I found Roger Love's book innacurate at least and plain wrong in some places. This might be a good book for someone who wants to sing with a microphone for a basement rock band and have at least some resemblance of a trained voice, but for someone who is serious about singing (e.g. opera, Church choir), get the McKinney book.
Rating: Summary: A great book to learn by! Review: I am a professional jazz/blues and gospel singer here in Japan. I am currently singing at a 5-star international hotel here and also have contracts in many jazz clubs and concert halls. For For jazz aficionadoes, my second CD was produced by Hugh Masekela. Aware of my own weaknesses, I am constanly looking for ways to improve my singing and be the best I possibly can. There are two books that I highly recommend, one is "Singing for the Stars", by Seth Riggs, and the other is this one, "Set Your Voice Free". The exercises are fantastic and very easy to understand. I also enjoyed his commentary on the strength and weaknesses of singers we admire. It's so easy to think that just because one is famous and making millions that one must be perfect...not so, and Robert Love explains it. Some of his lessons are similar to Seth Riggs, but then he studied with Seth Riggs (lucky thing), so it's understandable. My voice has certainly gotten better since employing some of the exercises described in this wonderful book. I am booked to sing spirituals(in a semi-classical style...something I thought I would never do...)in a large concert hall next year in March. I thank Mr Love because after reading his book I realized that I have many 'voices' and can develop all of them in a rich manner. My resonance has improved incredibly! I also teach scores of students and I can proudly attest thatmost of them have advanced greatly, and it is many thanks to some of the exercises in this book. The trill exercises are wondeful, don't sneer at them, an I always do the "goog" and "gug" exercises, great way to smoothen the bridge. I highly recommend this book for pros and for aspiring singers!

Rating: Summary: Not as great as I expected .... Review: I bought this book hoping it would give me more of a range since I sing mainly with chest voice. In the book, it claims to stretch your vocal cords and for you to experience "middle voice" but I didn't see much of a change in my voice after doing it for about 2 months straight, everyday. The exercises are fine if you just want to use them to warm up your voice, though. Roger offers a lot of good advice on how to break into the music industry and has this "q&a" section where normal people like you and me ask him questions about taking care of your voice and so on. If you want to buy it, make sure you already have a big range and a middle voice!!
Rating: Summary: Love has talent -- but hard to apply for a struggling singer Review: I can't vouch for the physiology involved with singing as I know little about the subject. What I do know is that working with the excercises on the included CD has helped me in 4 months more than anything in the 5 years I've been singing. I have gained considerable control and consistency which has so frustratingly eluded me up until this book. I work the exercises in my car to and from work with astonishing results. I recommend this book to anyone who has the discipline to make the exercises part of their daily/weekly routine.
