Summary: what can i say?
Review: I've actually only read one poem from this book so far, Sonnet 17 ("I don't love you as if you were the salt rose, topaz... so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close."), but it's incredible. Like many people, I first ran into this poem through the movie Patch Adams. A couple days ago, a friend of mine sent it to me saying that she knew I'd appreciate it, and she was right... right now, the book is sitting in my backpack, waiting until I can get a few spare moments to enjoy it.

Summary: Words cannot begin to describe the passion in this book.
Review: I, like every other person, heard of this book from the movie "Patch Adams". The intense words of passion expressed with such a tender, poetic style moved me to tears. It wasn't just the death of Corrin, although that was very emotional, but the way the writer made you feel as if he were reading that beautiful sonnet to you. Although I am only 16 and have not fully experienced love this sonnet made me feel as if I had and he(my true love)was standing in front of me. It gave me a since of hope, a since that in a world of divorce and infidelitys a person should still hope and pray for their one TRUE love.

Summary: Takes my breath away
Review: In my list of six favorite books for "The Week" magazine, I wrote: "I turned to this collection for a reading at my mother's funeral and again at the marriage of my son. "If I die, survive me with such a pure force you make the pallor and the coldness rage," one poem begins. Neruda paints emotion that takes my breath away."

Summary: Rotten translations
Review: It's been said, but bears repeating; the sonnets are amazing. The translation is not. Some of these works are more complex than many of Neruda's other love poems (twenty love poems and captain's verses) which contribute, I'm sure, to the translation troubles, but still. There's an ongoing project now to re-translate them well which probably violates copyright law, but look around for it if you're curious. Otherwise, just read the spanish version.

Summary: There is no poet more romantic than Neruda. A must.
Review: Neruda is so sensual and so accessible. It is hard not to cry when you read his love poems.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Poet of the Earth and Nature
Review: Neruda uses nature imagery to convey the deepest and most sincere feelings. Neruda prefers to keep his poetry simple and pure and does not use complex and arcane vocabulary. He has written the best poetry I've yet to read. It is beautiful in its simplicity and its impact on the reader's soul and imagination. While many poets try to cloak, cover, and exagerrate with their words, every line Neruda writes uncovers and lets us see what lies resident in his soul.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: 5 Stars plus! For Neruda
Review: Neruda's poetry is passionate and rich, nostalgic and deep, he moves you from the core of your soul to the tip of the universe; he makes you feel the kind of love that most of us never find or are able to experience while we are alive; his writings make you dream and anyone who enjoys good poetry would not be dissapointed with him!
In my personal opinnion he is the best romantic poet ever!
Just exquisite!
