Rating: Summary: A Tool for Students AND Professional Writers Review: Contemporary Editing provides a refreshing view of the role of editors in today's Internet economy. In addition to discussing the basic elements of superior editing, from grammar and punctuation to style and content, the authors provide readers with insight about serving news on the Web and in print with good judgement -- that is, how to pick out the real news and value for consumers. As a communications professional, I found Contemporary Editing a valuable resource to have on hand along the side of my AP Style Guide, a book I find myself referring to daily. Reviewing the book from the viewpoint of a journalism student, I found the book also a good resource for learning the basics and achieving the skills necessary for today's up-and-coming news reporters and editors. Because this book comes from a team of well-respected college professors and newspaper editors, I believe most students and writers will find the information timely and up-to-date.
Rating: Summary: Excellent textbook resource for writers of all ages. Review: I'm not a student at the college level quite yet, but I have found the book to be very helpful with some of my writing. Although more directly related to writing for periodicals, it contains information to improve any type of author. Anyway, this also my way of saying hello to my Uncle Donnie and Aunt Cecilia. That's about it.
Rating: Summary: excellent tool for journalists Review: This book, which is written by my professor here at UC, is an excellent tool for journalists to use to help them better their writing and editing skills.
