Summary: Spell binding book
Review: The naysayers have a hell of a time discrediting this book because Dr. Weiss is a conventional physician with a conventional background (a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School).

A 27 year-old patient, Catherine, had come to him seeking help for anxiety, phobias, and panic attacks. After a year and a half, Dr. Weiss couldn't cure said maladies with traditional therapy. On a whim, and as a last resort, he tried hypnosis. Under hypnosis, Catherine was brought back to her childhood, then as a baby, and then, out of nowhere, she slipped back into another time and place. Dr. Weiss thought the poor woman had a temporary case of psychosis but upon doing research, he found proof of some of the details of the lives the woman had lived (and, no, she was NOT Cleopatra!).

The best part of past life therapy is that after every method of "traditional" (read conservative) therapy has been tried and there are no results, past life therapy is used as a "last resort" and, many times, produces better results that enable the person to live a productive and positive life.

I dusted this book off in a day and love rereading it from time to time. It's heartening to read of a conventional doctor, his feet planted firmly on the ground, who discovered the wonders of past life regression therapy by "accident" and who champions it (complete with a set of ethics).

Summary: We are together, to the end of time.
Review: This is the third time that I've read this book over the years, and no doubt it will not be the last.

Just because this is a book on reincarnation, and past life regression, many people dismiss it a simple-minded, new age, drivel. I know that I almost did. That would have been an arrogant mistake, and a stupid loss, on my part. Take a look at the author's credentials: a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Columbia; a M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine; Chief of Psychiatry at a major hospital; over 37 papers and book chapters published in his field; a recognized expert on brain chemistry. In short, this man wasn't jeopardizing his career to make a quick buck. It pretty well shook his world to the foundations when he discovered that reincarnation and the evolution of the soul were reality. As he points out, until they personally experience the reality of the existence and survival of the soul then most people simply will not, cannot, accept it. Then, once you do accept it, then you find that there are literally libraries full of legitimate research that confirms it all.

The main text of the book reads more like a novel than a scientific or spiritual work. The main case that shattered the doctor's previous beliefs is unfolded in exactly the way that it happened to him. The past life hypnotic regression of the subject is recounted practically word for word - including the words of the Masters.

What struck me was the agreement of everything that came from the Masters (sages at the highest plane of spiritual evolution) with the perennial wisdom teachings that stretch back through all human history and all traditional cultures. It is all there: the fact that we are here primarily to learn and grow; that we are to learn to see that spark of God in both others and ourselves; that only God may take a life; the importance of harmony, balance, and simplicity; to do good for the sake of good alone- with no expectation of reward; and of course the survival of the soul and the cycle of rebirth and spiritual evolution. Indeed without the latter, human existence would hardly make sense.

It all sounds simple, but you only really gain such wisdom by slowly applying and living it- by turning the theoretical into the internalized. This is what you take with you, and what you bring back with you on your next cycle of birth and death- the eternal wisdom that you have welded eternally to your soul by actually living it.

Summary: Selfserving and Disappointing
Review: Disappointing to anyone who would like their belief in reincarnation validated. Examples of glaring problems with Dr. Weiss' assertions include:
1) We do not know about any of Catherine's interests and hobbies. Were history and acting among them?
2) Catherine is described as simple and honest and therefore unlikely to make up her previous lives. In light of her several year long affair with a married physician (with children) that description of Catherine's character appears a bit misleading.
3) Catherine conveniently forgets anything that could be factually verified. Her previous "self", including most recent ones, is always generic with no last name.
4) With the exception of one or two efforts to elicit facts that could verify Catherine's recollections, Dr. Weiss, repeatedly proclaimed in the book as a brillian scientist, makes no effort to gather facts that could verify Catherine's ravings. For exmple, what was Eric's last name??? He was a German pilot during WWII, certainly we could trace his existence. Was this perhaps a deliberate failure on Dr. Weiss' part?

Summary: Read this book!
Review: 5 stars really wouldn't do it justice. This book completely changed the ways I view everything that is important in this world - I really can't recommend it enough. It's one of the books I always make sure I have extra copies of to give to anyone going through hard times, particularly the death or impending death of a loved one. There is nothing else out there that could be more effective when it comes to grief counseling and inspiration, the chicken soup books really pale in comparison! Read it even if your life is perfect, trust me, it will get even better! Throw all the other self-help books out and just pick up a copy of this book. If you can't get ahold of one, message me and I'll send you mine, it's that good!

I hate to even touch on any kind of negativity, but just because this book did not ring true for you does not mean it is not helpful to others - please think twice before you vote negatively for people that endorse it. If it helps someone, what can be wrong with that, even if the information is false or contradictory, as so many of you claim? Remember to love thy neighbor.

Summary: Past Life/ Reincarnation Primer
Review: Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian L. Weiss, M.D. was an easy, enjoyable read. Well written and fast paced, I read it in one sitting. Most of the subject matter covered will not be new to a long-time student of reincarnation. This book is geared for readers new to the subject, as Dr. Weiss was at the time the events he describes took place. His analysis of events may annoy those who don't require concrete proof of spiritual realities. He offered no verifiable scientific proof of what he presented anyway. It was encouraging to see a serious scientist open his mind to faith without proof. Dr. Weiss' enlightenment on the subject (in this, his first book) is limited to one patient he regressed through 12 of her 86 past lives. The ones that are delved into aren't described in much depth. Though the regressions reveal personal insight into her present life difficulties, there's not much applicable universally. Some "Masters" he quotes seem a little too judgmental to be enlightened spirits: "Humans just destroy. They will eventually destroy themselves." Much of their wisdom offered little new in the way of insight: "Wisdom is achieved very slowly." The methods he describes using to obtain this material don't rule out contact with less enlightened spirits, which Dr. Weiss admits at one point. So the "many masters" may not have been masters at all. He does show how past life regression can be a powerful tool in healing emotional problems and phobias. Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls by Michael Newton, Ph.D, another regression therapist, are much more in depth and informative, though they deal with life between lives more than the mechanics of reincarnation itself. If your budget calls for more bang for your buck, your money might be better spent on classic "must read" books on reincarnation: Many Mansions by Gina Cerminara & You Were Born Again To Be Together by Dick Sutphen. Two newer "must reads" are: Adventures in Reincarnation
by Brian Jamieson and Past Lives, Present Dreams : How to Use Reincarnation for Personal Growth
by Denise Linn

Summary: The best book I've ever read
Review: Even if you don't believe in reincarnation or other paranormal phenomenon this book has such a great message that it is worth reading anyway.
It is especially comforting to those who have lost a loved one.
My friend Sandra Ramos, that originally recomended this book to me was just found murdered in her apartment. I reread the book and felt immediately comforted. I know that she would want others to know about this.

Summary: Great Book In My Eyes
Review: I'm a 17 yr. old senior in high school, clueless about my future and confused in what to believe in, i thought that having just one life was really unfair and then i read this book, not knowing about reincarnation or past lives. It's kind of comforting to read a book which really does change your perspective on life, maybe Brian Weiss doesn't have any scientific proof and maybe this book doesn't really do much for people who have studied reincarnation for many years and know every detail on the subject, but for someone like me who never knew about it, it changed my life, now death is just a part of life and things that seemed so important, like s.a.t.'s, school, boyfriends and teachers, don't really matter because it's only one life out of so many. And through everything that might happen to me, might just be that i'm learning to "become god-like through knowledge." I thank my sister for recommending this book, i suggest everyone read it, it's real.

Summary: Aid to understanding the "why"'s of the universe
Review: BACKGROUND: In 1986, I was involved in a severe accident which had left me comatose for 9 days. During the early part of my recovery, a dear friend suggested that I read this book after telling her about my memories from the time while in a coma.

REVIEW: Dr. Weiss answered a big "why" question for me. Why was I struggling between the notions of One-life, One-soul vs. Many-lives, One-soul? Through his research (much of which is presented in a worthy bibliography in the book), he discovered that the wording of the Bible has been modified -- at the order of Church leadership.

The story was quite grappling. I could not put this book down. I read it within 2 or 3 days. The experience through which I, myself, had just evolved compared too well with what I was now reading from another human for the first time in my (current) life; I was 35 at the time.

It was also quite compelling. Questions -- hard questions -- which many of us struggle to answer are addressed in his book. Being from a Baptist Christian up-bringing, I found it hard to acknowledge the Truth as presented. However, my own experience prevented me from disspelling it in the sake of other "unquestioned" teachings which cannot hold up to research methods.

Obviously, I believe that Many Lives, Many Masters is a great, yet simple, work. It excites me to think that when all has been deciphered from the Dead Sea Scrolls (and other ancient texts which have less political influence than the Bible), we will see that, indeed, Dr. Weiss has revealed to us the Truth -- Critically honest answers to the hard questions about our beings, both physical and spiritual.

Summary: I want to highlight parts of it!
Review: A friend loaned me this book. After reading just two chapters, I ordered my own copy of it. I want to highlight sections of this book - especially some of the profound messages from the Masters - so I can quickly find and re-read them. This book is a very quick read, even for those of us without enough time to read during a day. Yet it contains some very deep messages about how we should be living our lives and trying to "better" ourselves.
