Rating: Summary: Inspiring, moving, thought-provoking Review: Knowing something of the fame of Saint Therese, I found this book very interesting in that it provided a look at the human being she was. Her ability to relate so quickly and meaningfully with Maurice in these letters makes it clear that she was a person of wonderful qualitiies, capable of simple yet extraordinary accomplishments. The book also presents a beautiful picture of a life lived with reliance on faith...even when doubts occur. In her last year, Therese experienced profound feelings of spiritual emptiness which troubled her. We see no evidence of this in her letters to Maurice, but Mr. Ahern's lucid commentaries explain what was going on in her personal life and make it clear that she realized where her mission should be -- in helping a young man who needed encouragement, not in turning attention to her own needs. That a person does not have to be built on heroic proportions in order to do good in the world -- that is the message I took away from this book. And, I recommend tha others to pick it up and read it.

Rating: Summary: The Humanity of a Saint Review: Never have I read a book on a saint that was more revealing than this. The correspondence between this beloved Saint and a wonderfully ordinary priest washes away the mystique of St. Therese. What it reveals is a very human woman who through the love of Jesus helps another human being find the love God wants us to share in. It is very intense and emotional. You will find it difficult to put down and easy to re-read.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Read this book only if you are looking to peer into the life of this Saint and the most wonderfully loving correspondence with this young man she called brother. After reading this it has given more insight and also drawn me to re-read her biography Story of a Soul again. I encourage you to read this book if you want to grow in deeper friendship of this awesome saint whose "little way" has touched so many lives.
Rating: Summary: A Love Letter To Us All Review: The Story of a Love can really be described as Therese's love letter to us all. Her simple message of God's love and mercy comes vibrantly through in each letter to Maurice and his response echoes our own acceptance of this message. Comforting, inspiring and encouraging, these letters exemplify how each of us can transform lives and change hearts with a simple message of hope and love.
Rating: Summary: An inspiration for all ages! Review: The Story of a Love is exceptionally human and divinely inspiring. No plaster saints here. I would give a copy to every teenager. Here is a story of true love.
Rating: Summary: Being human and not perfect, yet called to transcendence Review: The story of Maurice and Therese is a marvelous one. The correspondence between a young dying nun and a young seminarian who has "great ideals and soaring dreams," but who is faced with great personal trials gives the reader a very touching and beautiful experience. How human they both are! This young man was Therese's first missionary disciple, and though his life seems to have ended in tragedy and failure, (as did Therese's, dying at 24 of tuberculosis), his was a hidden triumph. He truly followed her on the "Way of the Cross." A beautiful book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Introduction to a Marvelous Woman Review: Therese is an encourager to all, especially to those who suffer. A truly remarkable woman who became known in this world after she died. These letters of Therese and Maurice and Patrick Ahern's excellent commentary help one get a picture of this woman who loved Jesus in such a childlike way. Moving. Passionate. Encouraging. Loving. Get this book if you are at all interested.
Rating: Summary: Maurice and Therese Review: This book is about correspondence between a priest and St therese of Lisieux. It contains the letters and commentary about what was going on behind the letters. It is a refreshingly easy and quick read; yet, it is filled with little insights into Therese's spirituality.
