Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Fascinating past
Review: The author Paul Kocot Nietupski was very fortunate in having the Griebenow's archives to start his research. The place described in this book becomes an amazing show of colors and cultures in the minds of the readers. It is especially well told the hardships and trial the Griebenow family had to go through during those years when that part of Asia could become hostile to the point of death to outsiders.

The author did very well stating facts over opinions since some people see the Griebenow's as culture thrashers not helpers to this isolated place. The Griebenow's lives are forever made alive by this book and its wonderful stories.
