Summary: HELPED MY SPIRITUAL LIFE DEVELOP
Review: I am a christian and have been for many years now. However, after reading this book I view the world and life differently. I tend to take more notice of God's handiwork and creation after reading this book. The most important thing the book did for me was help me come to terms with what's important in this life: SERVING GOD AND LIVING FOR THE NEXT WORLD HERE AND NOW! Not living for temporary happiness and material satisfaction in this temporary planet we dwell in. Though I was aware of this before, it really hit home and helped cement this into my thinking.
Thank you Phillip Yancey for your wonderful insight!

Summary: Bring you back to earth to remind you there is more
Review: I am a fan of Yancey's writing, and this book has not failed me. Always honest, often profound, this is a book that makes you realise that the whispers of a life after this one are impossible to ignore. I walked away from this book with a real desire to have amore honest and real faith. Yancey is never preachy, but somehow you always put down his books with a conviction about how God wants you to behave a little differently. I would recommend this book to both Christians who want to have a honest look at themselves, and to people who just have an inkling that there is more to life than money, sex, products, heartache, death and taxes. You cannot leave this book without thinking more hopefully about the world.

Summary: Great find!
Review: I am not a religious person and do not normally read books that would fall under that catagory. This book, as it turns out, does not have a religious aspect. I have found the book to be quite amazing. It has helped me to understand the different views in life. Philip Yancey has created a wonderful work of art with this novel. I recommend this book to anyone!

Summary: inspiring book
Review: I am not an avid reader, but I decided to give "Rumors of Another World" a try after a friend mentioned it. I enjoyed it -it is not the "average" religious book, as Phillip Yancey discusses things I wouldn't expect to be in a book in the "religious section" of a bookstore. It was an inspiring book. It made me think more about questions that I wonder and ask myself. He addresses topics that have confused me in the past, but he did a great job of making it understandable while not lecturing. It is hard to describe in just a few sentences, but I would recommend others to read it.

Summary: Use for apologetics
Review: I am not sure if this book is the best for apologetics, or is it not meant to be used that way? So, I think this book can be useful for non-apologetical purposes, but for those who desire more rigor, I would recommend Gordon Clark and Vincent Cheung. You can find Clark's books from The Trinity Foundation, and Cheung's are free on his web site. Search the web for "vincent cheung theology," and I think you will find him.

Summary: Rumors of Another World: What on Earth Are We Missing?
Review: I bought the book on Saturday morning and spent all day reading until finished. Philip Yancey put into words so much of what "modern" Christians feel we are missing. What are we doing in this place? Do we belong? Mr. Yancey answers "yes". "On Earth as it is in Heaven" is what Christ will soon fulfill, but in the meantime we can find glimpses of and promote this goal in our daily lives. Saturday evening, I really felt something different about my life. I though it might subside over the weekend, but I continue to reference concepts in "Rumors" again and again. Without question, the best and most purposeful book I have ever read.

Summary: Gets You Thinking But Not Believing
Review: I find this book interesting in the fact the author acknowledges he is still searching for his own truth. We all ask the same questions, looking for answers of "Why Are We Here?". True, there are times in the book where I feel Yancey overlooks some facts that have been made about the Church itself. People do tend to forget the Church once governed everything and changed laws and religious "facts" to fit their needs at the time in order to keep control of the lands and people in it. Many things have not been told and/or changed during the couple of thousand years since Jesus. But I do find this book a very good starting point to get you comfortable with searching for your own truth. He does make you feel like you are not alone and even points to many of the same feelings he has had as a "Christian Author" that those of us Non-believers have. He makes some good points in the book and offers some good quotes from various other sources (i.e. C.S. Lewis and Lenin). I don't think he tries to offer answers as much as to get us thinking more about our own spiritual search each of us will eventually do. I think it still is a good read for anyone searching spiritually. He does not preach in the book which I did enjoy!! But I do recommend further researching and reading to help guide you further along.

Wishing you all peace and spritual growth....

Summary: A book that finally tackles the big questions
Review: I found this book to be truly willing to deal with the hard questions of life and give answers that make sense. The style is chatty and interesting and fun, you never knew where the book is going to go next, there were plenty of surprises in store for the reader. I am really enjoying it, it has a lot of beautiful images of the natural world in it, as well as human philosophy and belief. It covers a lot of things that no one has ever talked to me about, things that I have questions about. Really makes you think . . . and question if there is more to the world that we think there is . . . this is a great book for someone younger like me who had not seen much of the world, or really any age.

Summary: Writing at its best
Review: I have never read Philip Yancey before. I now know what I have been missing. His writing is extremely concise and flowing. His thoughts are my own, but taken to a new level. A level I am glad I was able to visit when reading this book. It is hard understanding the two worlds of heaven and earth. This book can help those struggling for comprehension concerning our spiritual journey. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: i love books written by philip yancy
Review: I have read 2 other books by Mr. Yancy. When reading his books I usually read a few pages and then stop and think about his words-- they are both profound and simple at the same time. He speaks clearly to Christians who want to have a strong faith in Christ and at the same time struggle with doubts and questions.I would read anything that he has written , and was very excited when this new book came out. I highly recommend it.
