Summary: Five Stars For Quality!
Review: Cambridge continues to put out some of the best Bibles in the world. This edition comes in the NIV (New International Version) and is a beautiful Bible to behold. The genuine calfskin leather is smooth to the touch and smells great. The paper is perfect Bible paper much like old Nelson Bibles were printed on. This edition is very easy to read in that it is on one page like a book. You don't get lost trying to look at cross references (as good as they may be). The words of Christ are in black letters which appeals to me more than a red letter Bible since all of the Bible is the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The only drawback with this edition is that it is the NIV. I contacted Cambridge to find out if they will be putting out any New King James, New American Standard, or English Standard editions. They replied that they are in talks with the groups who hold the copy rights on these versions. I do pray that they release an edition like this one in a literal translation. The NIV, while the best of the dynamic equvalent translations, is still not up to par with the KJV, NKJV, NASB, or the ESV. However, you can't go wrong buying this Bible for devotional reading.

Summary: Complete Satisfaction
Review: Several authors are unified into one theme: Jesus Christ. The book opens with the creation of the desperate need of man. Man through his selfish rebellion has seperated himself from his eternal Creator. That Creator seeks out the hidden rebel to promise to him that means to restoration: Jesus Christ. The story of restoration unfolds through the means of the new nation of Israel. Sacrifices and the Law reveal the nature of the Creator and His means for restoration. The story concludes with the coming of that Means to restoration. His sacrifice at the hands of the rebels is the payment for all of their rebellion. That hole created in man by his own rebellion is filled in the person of Jesus Christ.

Summary: Easier to read
Review: The New International Version is a great translation of the Bible. This single column edition is SO (I can't shout that loud enough) much easier to read then the usual 2 column newspaper style. Reminds me of the typical NASB layout. Do yourself a favour and buy it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent in all respects
Review: This Bible is a true joy to read, hold, look at, smell, etc. It's hard to fault a Cambridge Bible and this one has it all. Here are some of the things I like best about this Bible:

1. The NIV Version. It's a modern version and easy to read and understand. This version is great for the whole family, as children will be able to read along and understand. I've read recently that the NIV has about 42% of the market, so you'll find many others reading this version as well. My favorite version for personal devotions and study remains the Authorized (King James) Version. If you intend to study with the NIV, you will want a more literal translation close by.

2. Single Column layout with 10/11 pt. Palatino typeface
As mentioned below, the single column format is great. I find my eye tracks easily and naturally across the page, similar to reading a book. This is not a study Bible so there aren't a lot of references crowding out the Bible text. This is a very readable Bible. (If you are a new Christian, however, you may want to look at study Bibles, and then pick this one up in a few years.)

3. Quality
If you haven't experienced a Cambridge Bible, you are in for a treat! They have been publishing Bibles since 1591 and they've got it down to an art and science. Every aspect of this Bible, the quality of the leather (and it's smell), the paper, the layout, the typeface, the binding, the art-gilt edges--everything--is done with great care and attention to quality.

I recommend this Bible highly. I don't believe you will be disappointed in any way should you choose this version.

Summary: One of the Most Beautiful Bibles I Own
Review: This edition of the NIV is one of the most beautiful Bibles I
own. It is lovely. It looks beautiful! It has a wonderful font
size that reads across the page in a single column and yes,
as one reviewer notes, it even smells good. Cambridge makes
the best Bibles! I use this Bible when reading and often use
it when I preach from the NIV. Highly recommended!!
Let me also recommend the NIV Popular-Cross Reference by
Cambridge. It is only available from bookstores in the United

Kingdom or Europe, not in the U.S.A. It is well worth the
trouble it takes to buy it from across the sea! The Cambridge
Popular Cross-Reference NIV just might be the most beautiful
Bible I own!! The Cambridge NIV Popular is the
most beautiful Bible I own. It is worth the effort to get it
from the U.K. And yes, the single column NIV is a wonderful
edition to your library. Updated 9/19/2002.
