The principles of this book not only apply to Youth Ministry and dealing with teens, but if applied correctly you will be sucessful in life itself. Summary: Practical yet........
Review: Doug does a great job with this book. It has extremely practical teaching that is easy to apply to any cultural ministry scenario that a youth pastor can face. The problem, however, is that I can design a great program that humms like a machine and sends a message, but that doesn't change a teenager's heart. While I know, first hand, that Doug's ministry has changed thousands of hearts, if not more, I feel that his book understates some important issues: 1) Prayer is the key to any ministry's survival. 2) The issue of shepherding (relationships built with staff, and youth is far more important that simply having an airtight mission statement etc. BOTTOM LINE- This book is a great tool, but not the end-all ministry guide that many have made it in to. I would love to see a sequal by Doug that delves deeper into issues of prayer and shepherding.

Review: Doug Fields is honest and shares how God has blessed his church and especially his ministry. There are clear visions as to how God went about using Doug and his staff. This book if used properly can be an asset to the youth ministers around this great nation. From finding a purpose statement to allowing God to work in and through you this book has it all.

Summary: Phenomenal!!!
Review: I am a relatively new youth leader for my church's youth group...our old leader left to attend seminary in North Carolina, and I offered to step up and replace him. About 3 months ago when I first started, I had absolutely no confidence in my abilities, nor much of a direction as to where God would lead me through this ministry. But through the work God has done in my life and through reading this book (which I received as a gift from my fellow youth leader Shelly I might add), things have done a complete 180. I am now more confident than ever, and I have come to realize that leading a youth group is not all about having big-budget, flashy programs and whatnot, but rather about empowering young people with the knowledge they need to become Godly men and women in the future. Doug Fields has written a great book here that I think any youth leader or potential youth leader, no matter what level of experience they might have, ought to read. I have definitely seen a change in the effectiveness of my leadership because of it, and my kids are becoming more receptive to me with each passing day.

Summary: Wow!
Review: I am a youth minister and I spend many hours doing research. This book has opened up my eyes to so many aspects of youth ministry that I have never known. I can't describe how valuable this text is for anyone considering or in the youth ministry. We have successfully implemented many of Doug's strategies in our YM. This book covers programs to potential leaders. This is truely one of the best Christian ministry resources that I own.
