Summary: Amazingly insightful
Review: A great book just to read, or to use as a Bible study. Elizabeth George writes beautifully to women of the Christian faith. This book, when used with the study guide in the back, is one that really helps women to know how to love God in all circumstances, and how to rely on him through the day to day. Nothing short of spectacular.

Summary: Best book I've read so far on this topic for women
Review: Elizabeth George has done an outstanding job on this topic. She covers a range of issues/challenges that face women daily. I can admit to putting what she recommended to practice and I'm seeing the fruits. The chapter on 'Accepting the unacceptable', I believe should be preached from more pulpits - the theology of suffering has not been addressed in the church lately (probably cos' it's been replaced by the health & wealth gospel).

This book is a wake-up call to all christian women, it's for those who want a reality check with no frills added on how to face life's challenges as a christian woman in a way that glorifies God.

Summary: Made me think all over again...
Review: I have read this book twice... and each time have walked away with something new to focus on. When I say it "made me think all over again", it's because Mrs George stirred up some things in my life that had been out of focus or mis-prioritized. The section on "thinking on true things" (Phil 4:8) has stuck with me and I share it with others often. I look forward to reading more of her!

Summary: Life-Changing Book
Review: I've spent a lot of my life being held captive by Giant Despair. This book brought me hope, help, and refreshment.

If you have ever struggled with the "If only" of the past, the "What if" of the future, or the "It wasn't supposed to be like this!" of the present, you will enjoy this book.

Summary: In the Midst of a Storm
Review: It wasn't until I came upon a trying situation that I started to read this book that I had for 3 years. It has changed my attitude during my VERY difficult situation. Let me share with you an excerpt that has meant so much: "There is nothing--no circumstance, no trouble, no testing--that can ever touch me until, first of all it has gone past God and past Christ, right through to me. If it has come this far, it has come with a great purpose, which I may not understand at the moment. But as I refuse to become panicky, as I lift up my eyes to Him and accept it as coming from the throne of God for some great purpose of blessing to my own heart, no sorrow will ever disturb me, no trial will ever disarm me, no circumstance will cause me to fret--for I shall rest in the joy of what my Lord is--That is the rest of victory." No matter what I'm facing, I know that if I continue in His will, I will only come out a winner.

Summary: Terribly Disturbing and Misleading to God's Truth
Review: Please use extreme discernment and wisdom in reading this book. It comes from an extreme Calvanistic point of view and although there are many good lessons to be learned from the studied scriptures, they are primarily based from a wrong foundation and on OPINION. If you are one who practices calvanism, then this is the book for you but from a Christian foundational standpoint, it is misleading and false. Just because someone says they are a Christian and writes a book based on scripture does not make it true. Be careful what you read! The only true author is God himself!!

Summary: Be Transformed by Renewing Your Mind
Review: There's tremendous power in our thinking and our minds. Before we committed a particular action or sin, it began as an idea in our mind which we've then entertained and rationalized in our minds. Our minds is one of the most crucial areas the devil attacks. Our thinking affects our behavior. That's why the apostle Paul urges us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND" (Rom. 12:2, emphasis mine) and by "taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:3-5).

How do we take control of our mind? The chapters of this book include: Thinking on God's truth, winning over worry, taking one day at a time, remembering to forget what's behind us, perseverance, trusting the Lord, enduring difficult times, accepting the unacceptable. Though the author's target audience of the book is primarily women, men may also benefit from the Biblical principles taught throughout the pages.

One thing I like to suggest here is Scripture memorization. David said, "Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You" (Psalm 119:9-11). As we continue to fix the truth of God's Word in our minds, it becomes the dominant influence in our thoughts, our hearts, and our actions. The Word of God is also the "sword of the Spirit"--a spiritual armor piece for the battle in our mind (Eph. 6:17). To live a victorious Christian life, we must control our thought life and think God's thoughts after Him.

For those who struggle with a negative thought life or perhaps depression, this book is a helpful guide to overcome that. Our minds change the way we think, feel, and live. But we have control over what we choose to think. This book offers practical Scriptural principles to help us honor and please God with our thought life, and to "love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." (Matt. 22:37)
