Rating: Summary: Some good thoughts mixed in with bad theology Review: "One Minute After You Die" takes you through the afterlife through the perspective of a Calvnistic preacher at the famous Moody Church in Chicago. The book takes you through nearly everything ranging from reincarnation and near-death experiences to what heaven and hades are like, and to the fate of suicides.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this slim book of 144 pages, and I learned a lot from it. However, I must warn young Christians that Dr. Lutzer's theology is a Calvinistic and thus un-Biblical. The Bible does not teach perseverance of the saints nor does it teach election by predestination. I especially had trouble with Chapter 7 in which Dr. Lutzer talks about "Faith in God's Providence". The author says that ultimately all deaths are in God's hands, and that we are all called home when our "hour" approaches. This type of thinking leaves out man's free will. Chapter 8 really makes me tremble in fear for those who do not know the Bible. The author states that in order to become a Christian you muat place your trust in Christ alone, but he says nothing about REPENTANCE. Praying a "Sinners' Prayer" will not get anyone into Heaven. It is with great reluctance that I would recommend this book- only to those who are strongly rooted in thier faith and in Church history. Otherwise, I strongly advise that you read the Bible, and also study church history, especially study the writings of the early Church Fathers.

Rating: Summary: An excellent mix of real life application and deep theology Review: I enjoy Dr.Lutzer's work greatly, and this book addresses many issues which may weigh on people's mind as far as heaven and hell and where you may spend eternity. I definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Based on Scripture and Insightful Review: I found this book to be based on Scripture, not on Dr. Lutzer's opinions. Comfort, why death happens, etc. were addressed. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for honest answers. I have just experienced the death of an immediate family member and needed help through the grief. This book helped.
Rating: Summary: None better, IMO Review: I have read at least a dozen books on death and dying and none have given me as much comfort as this one. My only regret is I didn't buy it earlier. I could have spared myself much suffering and grief over the loss of so many loved ones. I no longer fear death because this book explained and answered all my questions in a way no other book has been able to. It isn't a politically correct, feel good book about dying but one based on biblical principles.
Rating: Summary: REPENT NOW - Read the Bible!!! - Commit your life to JESUS! Review: I have read this book many times over. It is Powerful and very Real since this entire book is Biblically based. I have given copys to friends and family in hopes & prayers that they will read it, repent of thier sins and make thier relationship to the Almighty thier Highest priority, before its to late. "Once we have passed through the door of death we can't pick up our suitcase and move out because we don't like the accommodations." ------------------- "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him" (John 3:36)------------------------ Please read this book - it is well worth the cost.
Rating: Summary: What an exciting book ..... Review: I have really enjoyed this book and found it to be scripturally sound. A must-read for Christians who desire to see a preview of what is to come. It helps remove fear of death and challenges the Christian to live a more worthy life.
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource information Review: I read this book 1 week after my dad died.. I wanted to know where he might be. This book gives accurate Scripture based information..and it also scared me enough to want to tell anyone who will listen that Hell is real and the way is broad for too many people to go there. Jesus said the way to heaven is narrow.. and few find the way. Maybe this book can help convince someone who is sitting on the fence to get to know Jesus personally. Because the minute you die there is no changing your mind. Comforting book for a christian but scarry for an unbeliever.
Rating: Summary: Words of comfort and insights well written Review: I was particularly moved by the authors insights into the death of children. I feel that although the subject of hell was addressed aggressively, the book was full of hope for all. I have read this book several times, mainly all the bent-edge pages. It is always by the nightstand.
Rating: Summary: If you ever wondered Review: If you ever wondered what happens, One minute after you die, you must read this book. Based on biblical principles author Lutzer does a fine job of showing us why some popular beliefs are inaccurate and what exaclty will happen to us and our loved ones. I bought a copy for each of my siblings and my children and my aunt when my momma passed on. There are some areas that are a little difficult because they seem to contradict what is said elsewhere in the book, but if you research in the Bible, you can see the truth. A great book.
